The 'apocalypse' won't take place until *after* the thousand years reign of Jesus Christ on earth. The Bible says that the earth will be destroyed by fire. That could mean a number of things. After that, there will be a new earth, and a new heaven.

Apocalypse means "revelation", so any answer to your question depends on when the revelation occurs. If you are referring to the Bible, that revelation has already occurred (since it is written down), and the world you see is the world after.
Perhaps you meant Armageddon.

The earth will be a Paradise, much like the one that Adam and Eve lost for us.
What will be the catalyst to bring it forth? No one know for sure.
First will be the cry of peace and security. Then false religion will be destroyed.
Satan will then turn his attention to God's people who will appear helpless.
Then Jesus will rush in, destroying what is left of Satan's old system of things and abyss Satan and his demons for 1,000 years.

Only God knows the answers to those questions, as He's the only One that knows the future. The Book of Revelation will give you a picture of what happens.
