I am having a Black-Tie wedding and it's going to be held in an *EXTREMELY* nice hotel (Think Plaza Hotel of NYC). Most everyone going owns a tuxedo, but we are not snobby people (most of us graduated from the University of Florida, lol) so I don't want "waltz-y" ballroom music the whole time, yet I think I'd feel uncomfortable playing songs like "Dirrty" by Christina Aguleria.

***By the way, this music is for the reception. The ceremony music is already picked***

Thanks for ANY suggestions!

We had a $75k wedding so I know just what you're thinking about. We went with "rat pack" era music. Think Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Ella F., Billie Holiday, really old time classics that everyone recognizes. If you have a DJ, if you say I want "Rat Pack" then they will know exactly what you mean. This will work especially well if you're having a live band because the songs are all very well known and classic. Congratulations!

I was a music man and mc for many weddings. The reception is a celebration. The music is whatever people want to dance to, everything from 50s fox-trots to polkas, to country line dancing to modern rock, etc. You need to pick the first dance for the couple, a nice slow song that they both like, or even with a special meaning, like the first slow song they ever danced to. A nice touch at the mid-point of the evening is a ceremonial giving of the bride to the groom before they leave. Something like "Daddy's Little Girl" with the crowd in a circle around the dancing bride and father, then the father turns to the groom, and the couple dances to something like "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands". Then a ceremonial leaving, either to change and come back for final good-bye, or the actual departing of the couple. The rest of the night, the dancing people pick the music.

It's your marriage ceremony, do what makes you pleased! There are not any laws. At our marriage ceremony we had the visitors arrive at round 7 pm so it used to be after dinner. We held the rite within the identical room because the reception. So as visitors arrived, we had been there greeting them and mingling earlier than we had been even married. That broke the ice and made a rather hot and excited atmosphere. When it used to be time to get married we simply moved to the entrance of the room, and every person quieted down and we had the rite. People had been status and sitting, with beverages or with out. We then moved instantly into the reception, no meal so no head desk or desk assignments. We simply had a few tables across the room and individuals might sit down at them in the event that they desired. We had a buffet of finger meals and appetizers. The MC introduced what we would have liked after we wanted, my dad desired to mention whatever, we had a few speeches, after we reduce the cake, however once more, rather informal. Then we danced the night time away. People mentioned afterwards that it used to be so first-rate to have all of it so acquainted and handy going, they felt a lot more incorporated than in conventional weddings, and it appeared hotter and extra loving. We had a blast and it made the complete factor plenty much less worrying for us. We had a hundred thirty five individuals and all of it went off with out a hitch! Good success!

even with a formal reception you should have a wide variety of music (alittle of every kind) to keep ALL of your guests happy and having a good time. it's important that you think of every age group and every musical preferance,
