As long as you ask nicely, why shouldn't you be allowed to ask? I can only answer for myself, I don't know the circumstances why those machines are more popular than the others... can you look out while exercising, are they nicer to use in other ways too (simple controls, do they run lighter?) or do they just happen to be the ones in front so everyone who walks up to the treadmills and doesn't have a preference will get on them?
If you were to ask me I would move if I didn't have a preference, I'd stay if I did, but either way I wouldn't mind you asking, as long as you did so nicely.

If anyone asked me to move to the machine that handles Skinnier People I would hop off that treadmill so fast your head would spin.
It's not rude at all. You're not asking them to give up the machine when others aren't free, so I don't see the problem.
If you ask in a friendly manner with a smile on your face you're sure to get a better response. I would add the flattery about the other machines being adequate for the Skinny folk with a big smile.
220 ain't nothing honey, one of my brothers is quite tall and very muscular and weighs much more than that. Don't let anyone ever give you a hard time over the 220 thing, even if you're plump.
Best of luck to you!!

Doesn't your gym have some type of time limit on treadmills? I think a better way to go about it would be to approach one of the smaller people on the treadmills and ask them how much longer they are going to be (politely as possible) and explain why you are waiting for that particular machine. Hopefully when they know someone is waiting they will hurry up and finish their work-out or they will move to a smaller machine to accomodate you.

Most gyms have a sign-on sheet for each of the popular machines. If that's the case in your gym, put your name on the sheet and use the intervening time to work out on another machine or doing free weights until your turn comes up.
If your gym doesn't operate on that system, you might want to suggest it to the management as a way of ensuring that people have equal access to all of the equipment.

Tricky question.
These treadmills are obviously not only nicer for you to work out on, but they are the favored ones by the customers.
If you ask them to do this, you will most likely be met with an "I don't care" attitude...so myself, I'd just be patient and wait for a machine, and if it's that troublesome, address your concerns to management, not the other customers, to see what could be done.

First come, first served applies to this. Just get there a little earlier or wait.
You might try to ask, but I wouldn't be surprised if they said no. They also paid their membership fees, own routines, i.e., getting there a certain time (whatever).

Before you ask anyone to move, you might want to ask management how you should approach this. It might just be that you will have to wait your turn.

I think we live in a society where people will generally oblige to your request especially in that type of surroundings. People generally have empathy for people of your stature and if they don’t, it means they are inconsiderate and they should be told so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
