It sounds to me as though you seek what an INVERTER can do... change 12V DC to 120V AC. Maximum wattage output would be, probably, about 75% of the wattage of the source: Car battery? (Engine running?)
Do research: $30 will get you something to plug into the cigarette lighter and run the portable TV... maybe a circular saw...
Solar powered automobile window fans MIGHT keep a car environment tolerable.
A household window air conditioner is a big load. Probably not for the car or camper.

You can produce AC (Alternating Current, like household sockets) power with an inverter powered by a battery, but it is far better to simply use a TV or radio that accepts DC (Direct Current). Radio Shack can help you get a converter to provide the correct voltage and amperage for a DC source.

You can also buy an AC generator powered by a small gasoline engine.

wow an air conditioner??? it will take more than one car battery however a power inverter will change your current from dc to ac to run small things such as a radio or even a small t.v. if you are looking to do something that big to save some power maybe some solar cells would work if you got the money to have them installed.

you can use a 12VDC to 120VAC INVERTOR. You can purchase tehm at most Auto parts stores, and even stores like Target or Wal-Mart.

Be sure you know what the total wattage requirements of all the items you intend to operate, this way you properly size the wattage rating of the Invertor. Look at the links provided to get more info on where to buy invertors online
