You can't reason well with an 18 month old - I highly recommend getting a crib tent - you can get them at Babies R Us or OneStepAhead.com - Its like a mesh tent that goes over the top of the crib that prevents them from climbing out. Its genious!

I beg you - do NOT move him into a bed. Everyone seems to do this when kids start climbing out of cribs - but at 18 months, if you move him into a bed, all you are doing is providing him an easier venue for getting out of bed. It'll be 500 times worse. Try the crib tent and buy more time in the crib, untiil they are older and you can reason with them better about staying in bed.

My friend also was able to get one of those crib tents on ebay for a much better price. good luck!

I'd get him a regular twin bed with the safety rails on the sides.... then put a baby gate up in his doorway so he can't get out and get into everything.... Then baby proof/ toddler proof his room, and out up anything in his reach that can hurt him.. this way he won't fall out of the crib and break his neck, you'll save some money by going straight to a big boy bed (a toddler bed usually only last until age 3)... and he will be safe in his room, when he gets out of bed in the mornings or middle of the night if you are still asleep for some reason....

You baby is now a big boy, and it is time to instill some new things for him....

Good Luck!!!!

Lower the mattress on the crib and put lining that won't allow him to get a grip good enough to climb out

they usually say once they start crawling out to stop using a crib and get a toddler bed, that way they dont fall and hurt themselves. accidents like falls account for 300 deaths a year for children under 4 in the U.S.

You need to lower the mattress to the lowest level so that he cannot climb out. My daughter physically cannot climb out since the bar is too high, but I'm sure she would try if she could. Your son is still young and could hurt himself climbing like that, so be careful!

once my child starting climbing out of her cot not much you can do. Just set the routine and everytime he gets out put him back in. get him used to the routine and to understand that climbing out is a wasted exercise as he will be put straight back in.

to me it seems like you are at a never winning battle so id suggest a toddler bed. there isnt much you can do to a 18 month old to stop crawling out when my son did that he got his own bed.

maybe you should do the toddlee bed thing or just put the mattress on the floor... Hopefully he has his own bedroom... just never give in to letting him sleep in your bed!
