For years my partner has gone without several upper front teeth, and I finally convinced her to get some work done. The dentist recommended an upper metal partial that replaces the front 4 teeth. After all the horrible drilling, pulling, grinding, etc, she now has an upper partial that does not look natural, falls out when she tries to eat, and she cannot speak right. She doesn't really want to go back because she thinks that they won't be able to do anything about it. They told her that she has a very unusual bite and that's why it doesn't look natural - they couldn't make it fit any better. I was reading online and now I see that the teeth a metal partial anchors to often break because they are ground down to hold the clip. I don't know what I have done to her, but I feel terrible. What if anything can I do to remedy this situation? can the teeth they grooved for the partial be filled in later? Do all partials have similar problems? I don't know if we can afford implants...HELP!!!!!

THE ULTIMATE RESPONSIBILITY ON THIS SITUATION IS WITH THE DENTIST.
WHY?
BECAUSE HE/SHE HAS TO GET INFORMED CONSENT. WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT THE PATIENT MUST BE FULLY INFORMED OF THE POSSIBLE OUTCOME OF THE PROCEDURE BEFORE IT'S DONE.
I SUGGEST YOU NOW SEE A PROSTHODONTIST TO SEE WHAT REMEDY CAN BE DONE NOW.

Go back to the dentist, they need to do an adjustment on the partial, it usually takes a few tries to get it right. If they still say she has an unusual bite and can not give her a working partial then they need to refer her out to a specialist.

First of all you didn't do ANYTHING TO HER. Nobody likes a martyr.....get off the cross, we need the wood.

Second, she HAS to go back to the dentist. It can take several fittings to get the partial correct. You don't go once and think it will fit perfectly. So tell HER to get off the cross, too.

do not get implants. first of all, the fact they are metal is bad. it is stainless steel and that has nickel, a known cancer causing agent. two of the best partials are valplast and flexite. go to mexico if you can, because they are cheaper. yes, they can get them to fit right, whether they have to do some build up or not.
