it ALL depends on the person. Since youre already dark, it might take you longer than others so i'd agree w/ the others that 30 min is about right

however, you do not want to avoid the sun altogether. Your body NEEDS vitamin D (the type that can only come from sunlight, not supplements) and lack of vitamin D leads to ricketts in young children and osteoporosis (and other diseases) in adults. All you need is to get about a week of sunlight in the summer to get the amount of vit D you'll need to last for the whole year so it's not a big issue, except for in cultures where they dress to completely cover themselves at all times when outdoors.

Sunscreen is also a good idea! Just use something higher than spf 30!

Generally, about 15 to 20 minutes. You should wear an SPF 15 or greater for any sun exposure past 20 minutes. It doesn't take long to tan in the sun, and often you can't see it right away.

It usually takes from 20 to 30 minutes to develop some color. It depends on the day, month, temperature too. It also depends on your skin tone.

With today's UV rays I would say depending on your skin color now, if you are already dark complected then no more than 1-2 hours if you are light complected than I would say definantly no longer than 1 hour.

Just wear sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and try to stay out of direct sunlight. You won't get skin cancer that way.

Now to the girl who said "Go to a tanning place-it's safer" must be on CRACK. Tanning booths, lying on the beach.....both are BAD, but tanning booths raise your chances of getting fatal skin cancer by 55%.
How about THAT?

Good for you! It depends on the individual. Put a sunscreen (spf 15 or higher) on every day in the morning. Wear a hat on particularly sunny days. You'll be fine.

If you avoid the sun you'll deprive your body of Vitamin D. Just put on a heavy duty sunblock, and don't stay out too long.
