I went to the doctor for a physical and after the checkup she asked me questions about my life and we started talking about my anxiety and how I have panic attacks all the time. She said I should go see a phsyciatrist. My mom hasn't done any searching and I haven't seen a phsyciatrist. Is it really that serious that I should go.

If the panic attacks are preventing you from doing normal every day tasks... going outside, going to school, running errands. Over time they can be very debilitating but also know this can be treated.

If the symptoms you are suffering from your panic attacks cause you problems (embarassment, pulling away from people and friends, etc) then it might not hurt to go talk to a professional.
Seeing as you mention your mom, would it be safe to assume that you are attending a school of some sorts? Most schools/colleges have counsling services you could try just to see if it's something you find helpful. Or if you attend a church, you could try talking with your pastor/preacher/etc. before seeking a complete outside source.
One of the most helpful piece of advice one of the shrinks I've talked with that has really helped me control some issues was to keep a written journal. None of this online stuff....a real paper journal. Write in it every night just to get everything out of your head. You'll be suprised how much stress can be released by that simple act.
Good Luck!

It is normal for a person to have at least one panic attack in their lifetime. However, having multiple panic attacks is not. I suggest that you do go see a psychiatrist if for nothing else than to at least stop the attacks. It must be annoying getting them all the time. I had one once and it was awful. Anyway, good luck to you!

What have you tried to help yourself with these feelings? Is that helping? Is it getting worse with time... or better? Running to medication (which is what a psychiatrist would give you) at this point might not be very wise, especially if you haven't tried other ways of dealing and coping. A psychologist might be a better option at first. They can give you other ways to help you with this kind of thing, instead of going to medication right away. I'm not saying that medication has not done wonders for people, but why not try a more natural, behavioral approach first??

Only you can answer this question.
If they have a negative effect on your life then have a look at what treatment is available, this is not necessarily a psychiatrist, you could find relaxation methods or an on line support group to chat about your anxiety just as useful.
The only treatment that will work is the one you want to do.

every doctor has its own specialty, but they have same principle in assessing patient. If you think you can still afford the symptoms and you can still handle the situation , you can decide wether to see psychiatrist.but despite the symptoms are still best for you to see a psychiatrist to rule out and to give immediate attention with regards your panic attack. good luck
