personally, I think the earlier the better. I waited until my child was 9, and that was too old. One reason to do it earlier rather than later, is that when they get older, they don't always follow the directions of activity and eating, especially. They cheat, and thenthey can re bleed. I know what you're going through, it was so scary to hand my daughter over to the doc. But, hundreds are done with few complications. Hope this helps.

Many doctors don't like tonsils. They also like to push antibiotics on children. This is a somewhat complex subject.
1)Tonsils and adenoids are near the entrance to the breathing passages where they can catch incoming germs, which cause infections. They "sample" bacteria and viruses and can become infected themselves. Scientists believe they work as part of the body's immune system by filtering germs that attempt to invade the body, and that they help to develop antibodies to germs
Wish we had color so I could call your attention to the last sentence
3) Tonsils are glandular tissue located on both sides of the throat. The tonsils trap bacteria and viruses entering through the throat and produce antibodies to help fight infections.

In later life tonsils can act as an early warning system against colds and flu. I nave always been glad I still have mine. A sore throat is my first warning that I am in trouble. Under those conditions I use Vitamin C and B12 along with a good multi-vitamin.

My son had his out when he was 2 and did very well. He was acting his old self in about 3 days. I know it's a scary situation but will save him alot of grief and make him feel better in the long run.

The general opinion here is right. The earlier the better. Believe it or not, your son is tougher now to pain than he will be at five. Good luck!

YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED WHAT ATWO YEAR CAN HANDLE. MOST TWO YEAR OLDS DO NT KNOW HOW TO TELL YOU WHERE IT HURTS AND WHEN IT DOES.PARENTS CAN TELL BY THE WAY THEY SEE THEM SWALLOW AND CAN TELL IT HURTS.THE YOUNGER THEY ARE THE LESS THEY REMEMBER.IF YOU WAIT TILL HES FIVE THAT'S MORE ANTIBIOTICS FOR THREE YEARS.THE MORE YOU TAKE THE LESS EFFECTIVE THEY COULD BE.IAM SURE IF HE HAS THEM OUT YOU WILL BE ALOUD TO STAY WITH HIM ALL NIGHT

The biggest worry is getting a raspy voice for a few days. And the earlier you get 'em out, the better.
