I met this guy in September on this online dating group. He was not in the group but saw the ad and responded. We exchanged emails,..wrote daily. Then we began using instant messenger before exchanging numbers and we talk every night. We even exchanged PO Box address so I sent him a card. We talk every night for hours each night. He's in the military and we're not in the same state. He's originally from CA. I like him...he likes me and we want to meet in April/May. He'll stay at a hotel nearby...if we do..or I can stay on base if I visit. He said we don't have to if I'm not comfortable. What do you think? I know there are horror stories from online dating...I would just like opinions or advice.

You can certainly do a background check... and it doesn't sound much different than Yahoo Personals, Match.com or any other dating service. Have you exchanged photos? (Very important....!!!!) Do you know what his parents do/did for a living, where he graduated hs, (you can look that stuff up, ya know.... )if he has siblings, his education, yayayaydyayday...??? If he is worth meeting, he is worth finding out about, even if it costs you some cash..
Other than that, meet in a public place, during the day.

Talking to people online and then meeting them in your own community, where you know your way around, can get home if you need to, and have a social support network is one thing. Traveling for someone that you met online, and don't really know outside of it, is a different story. There's anecdotal evidence that it works, and also that it's dangerous, so some risk comes with the reward. You might want to start thinking about all the time you're investing in a relationship with a person that you've never met face-to-face, and look at how you could spend it meeting someone closer to home.

Meet Him it will be the best thing that ever happened to you. I know from experience I met this guy online and we met a couple of months later and i wish i met him sooner. He is also in another state currently and in the military. When I went to see him I went by myself just go with your gut and you should be fine. MEET HIM!!!!! I know I'm glad I met my guy.

If you really want to meet him just be careful and meet up in a public place. Tell a friend or family that your going out to meet him.

Lucky You! Trust me this sounds like something really nice. I wish I had more of an experience like yours. I can't even get past one or two e-mails and they are gone or I no longer have interest. I would just be careful, play it by ear and look forward to meeting him.

awww...omg ....thats so sweet of ya'll ....but anyways ....YEAH ... i think u should definetly meet him.
1)make sure y'all meet in a public place
2) exchange pictures first
3) bring a buddy to make sure errthing is good ....and the person can leave later or stay(ur choice)

I would bring someone with you, like your mom or your sister. You don't know who this person is. You are assuming that he's really in the military.
