I've known this guy for 7 years and I am seeing who he really is , and I got turned-off by him this year because he's not honest with himself as well as people, and I wrote him an e-mail telling him that he's gotta know who he is as a person and he's gotta to be true to himself , I don't want to be in a relationship with someone who's not honest with themselves. My question is how come it took me awhile to realize what he was like as a person?

When you care about someone its often easy to overlook their faults. It happens to everybody. The stronger the bond, the more blind you are. I'm so sorry he turned out to be such a jerk!

He was trying so hard to meet your expectations in a man. You are probably very demanding and hard to please. I dont know the scenario. But if it took you this long to find out a persons shortcomings and faults and he didn't meet your expectations from the getgo why did you lead him on? If you were a true friend I would have appreciated that you told me straight up where I was coming from and you dont take the BS. But for you to wait so long to judge and watch him hang himself that is so cruel for you to do that to him. Maybe its a wake up call for the two of you to be honest from the beginning with your next relationship and the selection of friends that you both are looking for. Both of you were playing games on each other. You both lost out on something that could have been special!!!! Next time check yourself before you wreck yourself....Peace Papa Hank

It takes us all a while to get to know someone, your on the right track, at least you did not wait for years and get married and had kids then there would be a lot more hurt.
