A sales rep there said that, since the govt is making everything go digital by a certain deadline.

If so, why is my 27" SONY tube tv STILL fricken $400 at Meijer?

The manufacturers are TRYING to get away from picture tube TVs because all the LEAD and EXOTIC metals inside them make them HARD TO DISPOSE.....Can't just toss them into the LANDFILL without someone holding out their hand for YOUR CASH......

It's actually cheaper to make a Plastic TV screen and a Plastic TV....

Until some LIBERAL THINK TANK begins to see the lack of money ......and claims Plastic kills our water source...

FUNNY point is the Landfills have been using the Liberal's "Improved anti-leak" landfill system since the 80's, and NOW their anti-leak landfill can't handle lead? I thought that's what it was developed for !!

POLITICS!! Follow the money......

As for your CRT for $400.....whatever the customer WANTS is what the Manufacturer will sell......and you're buying a SONY CRT, not everyone else's "plain old vanilla" CRT.....
That's Sony technology you're getting there....The Trinitron ! The Vega ! (or VVega)

2 highly proprietary designs well protected by Sony and untouchable by all other manufacturers!

They won't drop their prices.....

It is and the reason is that in 2009 all analog television airway stations (the local channels) are being completely shut down and converted to digital signal. An analog tuner will be useless for local signal, though it will still be ok for cable. If you're going to buy a TV, make sure it has a digital tuner in it.
