When first getting your lip pierced, do you have to get a stud, or can you get an actual ring?

You can get either, though most people get the ring for a couple reasons. It is much easier to clean since the ring can be rotated. It also allows plenty of room for swelling so you don't have to worry about the bar not being long enough like a stud. Plus, some people feel that a ring will cause less damage to the teeth and gums than a ring.

I have had the side of my lip pierced twice, my libret once, and now have right under my bottom lip pierced. My libret healed the easiest and i had a stud. The two on the side of my lip had rings and got infected because the ring would get the ikkie stuff that comes out on it and one way or another it would end up getting pulled into the wound (which sucked). And yes i cleaned it all the time. Then i just got my bottom lip pierced about 3 months ago (which is the only one i have now). I was gonna get a stud because i though it would heal better but at the last minute got a horse shoe and things have been great.

So i would say get a stud or a horse shoe until it heals then if you want a loop change it. Good luck!

Coming from someone who has many piercings, you can get either a ring or a stud when getting your lip pierced. Getting a ring would actually be best because it will be easier on your lip when it swells in the first few days.

You can get either labret stud or CBR. Simply a matter of your preference and what the piercer suggests. I prefer to do lip piercings with labret studs, easier for cleaning, gets knocked around less.

You can get either. I would choose the stud first because it gets less irrated than a ring.
But once it heals you can change it to a ring and keep it clean!
Hope I helped =)
