Well one way is to drink the water and if your still kickin a couple days later then the water is okie dokie. BUt this meathod is not the best one to use if you are into self preservation.

Another way to test your water is to go to your local environment office and get a sterile bottle and take a sample of your water and have it sent into a lab for testing.

Testing on your own can be done but its not as accurate and more difficult to test for other pathogens so best to let a lab do it for yah.

Go to your county health agency. It should be located in the courthouse. They will give you a sterilized bottle and instructions to fill this bottle. Take it back to them and they will test it for a fee. Most counties charge about fifteen dollars, You will have to call and find out.

Floaty bits, Professor, could also be just calcium in the water. Not all floaty bits are bacteria. Hard water?

put some in a clean clear plastic bottle and let it sit in the sun for a few days. If you get floatie bits in it then the water has bacterial contamination. Or take some to a pool shop and get it tested for pH, EC, TDS and Phosphorus. most pool shops will do it for free
