Yes, there is and YES, it works............I have had 2 of my 4 cats that didn't "know how" to use the box for whatever reason when I got them and this litter really helped.
It's called "Cat Attract" and it comes in a red bag. You can get it at most pet supply stores, for about $15. It's a bit expensive, but once kitty gets used to going in the box, you can start slowly introducing a less expensive litter mixed in with the cat attract until you are totally on the less expensive.
The only thing that concerns me about your question is that you say "sudden issues". If this is a cat that was using the box BEFORE and is now going in "inappropriate areas", that's a sign of a urinary tract infection. This can be fatal if not treated. Does kitty "strain" to go to the bathroom, or cry out in pain when trying to urinate? It would be a good idea to take him/her to the vet if he/she used to go in the box and suddenly is not.
Also, if you're not keeping the box clean enough, they will go elsewhere..........make sure you're scooping daily.

Before you buy a new more expensive cat litter you might want to figure out why your cat suddenly stopped using the litter box. Is it because it isn't clean enough or its not the fine gravel or even the location, if its in a crowded active location. If could even be if you have another cat. One cat will bully the other when you don't see making it impossible to use the litter box. If thats the case buy another litter box. If you have just adopted the cat take the cat to the litterbox and set her in it and move her paw through it to show her this is where to go. There are lots of things to try. I hope this helps. Goodluck!

Cats are attracted to anything they can bury it in. I use ScoopAway Multicat. Litter. It is the best!! Maybe you need a litterbox with a lid for privacy or if you have one try taking the lid off. Keeping the litter box cleaned out on at least a daily basis will keep them happy too cause cats are clean.

You don't need to buy expensive cat litter. Cats will use it naturally....Just put it in plain sight and slowly move it to where you want it to be..like a laundry room. They will get the idea.

Yes it is called Cat Attract..:) I use it in my cattery to get my males to spray in the litter box, instead of everywhere else.

There is but the scent can also turn them off. Have you had the cat vet checked for urinary problems?
