I've been losing on a low-calorie diet, you know burning more calories than what you consume. However, I noticed that most low cal product have a high amount of carbs. What gives, do carbs make me fat?? Should I just consider calories?? Help pls

Actually, the most fattening nutrient is fat and here is why:
Anything that gets stored as fat must first be converted to fat (except for fat). Also, for each gram of fat produced, it must yield 9 calories but a gram of carbs only yield 4 calories. You simply cannot get 9 calories out of only 4 so the laws of physics prevent a gram of carbs from ever producing more fat than a gram of fat.

The bottom line is that empty calories are what make people fat, and alcohol (7 calories/gram) or excess of any caloric nutrient will produce empty calories.

Also, contrary to what Atkins and company will tell you, carbs are the primary fuel source for the brain and the entire nervous system. In addition, carbs are the ONLY fuel source for the red blood cells and the kidneys. Low carb diets can cause hypoglycemia and are very hard on the kidneys which have to process more waste while being short on fuel.

High carbs translates into sugar, lower your carbs.

reduce carbs and increase protein. drink more water.
