HELP!!! I have a 4yrs old female half golden retriever half malamute. She is the sweetest dog ever and has never chewed anything up. Even as a puppy I always thought she was a little odd for never having the urge to gnaw on things. I woke up two days ago and she had got into the trash and it was everywhere! She has never done this before! Then this morning I woke up and she had chewed up a coat, a pair of shorts, 3 shoes, My father's wallet and even his credit cards, and 2 of her toys!!! I don't know what has gotten into her! I am really amazed at her behavior, she doesn't act sick? I don't get it?

I am a stay at home mom, so she is not lonely, and always has attention. The only thing I think may upset her is that she doesn't like my husband but he has been here longer that she has. (he's not new)

My vet once told me that a dog that is suddenly chewing up things may have a sore tooth or another mouth soar. check her teeth out and if you see anything obscure take her to the vet. If not, is there anything new to the household? If there is she may not like it and is showing you this by destroying objects.

Aww... that's so sad. You've lost a 'heart dog' , a soulmate, one of the very best. The grief you're feeling right now is the start of a natural healing process that will in a few weeks time re-organize your memories of Theodore so that when you first think of him it will be with a happy memory. He will get to be something like a little avatar in your memories that will help you with your next dog. Everything you learned from Theodore will be there for you to use with the new dog; that will be his legacy to you. Not a replacement, not disrespecuful, but the right thing to do. But I think 2 or 3 weeks is much too soon as you'll barely have had time to let your last dog go. I can tell you it is very easy to make mistakes with a new dog when you're not thinking right. Everyone is different but for me it takes about 6 weeks before I'm ready. Ideally the new family dog should arrive at the start of a long holiday period so that everyone has time for it. A little puppy will be so full-on with everything that it's going to be quite hard for you if it's too soon. If it arrives that soon you'll have to try to see it as part of the legacy your dog left you, and do your best to give the puppy a really happy introduction to the family. It may actually help you if you read up on canine calming signals so that the communication between you can be easier.

Wow...sounds like some dog is feeling a little neglected maybe? there could be a medical reason...but have you been paying less attention to her..has she not been able to get out due to spring and you keeping her in more due to the mud?
Could be many different things...even a problem with her tooth...maybe it is hurting her...have you changed her diet? Brought something new into the house? I wish you the best of luck! Just don't give up on her...

Do you have other pets in the home? I know mine get into competitions of tearing things up. lol. Sometimes they can feel neglected even if you're home all day. Do you spend specific time with them or just inhabit the same space? (I'm not suggesting at all that you're neglectful, just human!) Or yeah, it could be something to do with her teeth/mouth. If it becomes a constant problem, re-evaluate everything and seek vet attention.
Don't whip her though or try to correct it before you know what it is. It'd be awful if it was a tooth ache and she was trying to show you and you were yelling at her to stop, telling her no. Right? ;-(

Sounds like she is bored and looking for something to do. If you don't walk her out everyday, START!! It will be healthy for you and you can take your child with you to teach him/her some responsibilty (how to walk the dog everyday, to clean up after him/her etc) if you are taking it on walks, take it a little longer or bring him to a park. Just sounds like he is bored and needing something to do.

Ddgs like long walks. Take the dog on daily long walks. Give her dog treats, and give her dog-things to play with

sounds as though she's looking for attention, are you spending enough time with her?...I had the same problem with a dog I had once..took me a long time to figure out that I wasn't spending enough time with her, she didn't like being cooped up all day long with no one at home..
