Jury duty is a valid excuse for not reporting for work. Thus, somebody who reports for jury duty got paid and it is a social responbility since its benefits is for the proper administration of justice.

I know people who simply tear up the summons whenever they get one, have been tearing them up for nearly 20 years and have never received so much as a knock on the door.

I personally could never do this, but the bad news is that there really are no excuses anymore, save for the medical one.

However, there is one relatively sure way to get yourself struck from the panel if and when you DO appear. At any time, simply reveal to the judge your knowledge of jury nullification. Don't know what that is? Use my source URL to find out. Then Google the term and read more. Understand it inside out and be prepared to explain it to the judge. (Also be prepared for the judge to harass and/or belittle you in front of others for revealing this knowledge.) After the judge finishes having a grand mal seizure, you will likely be dismissed faster than you can SAY "jury nullification." Demonstrate to the judge that you are a free thinker, intelligent, and likely to vote your conscience if you feel the law applicable to the case is faulty, and you'll be gone. It happened to me.

The truth is that most of us are not aware of our rights as jurors. But that's the way the courts want it--it means they can ask you to interpret the law as they tell you to and expect compliance. If people knew they didn't have to do this...can you imagine?

And unfair? Try ILLEGAL! Jury duty is the equivalent of involuntary servitude, illegal in this country under Amendment 13 of the Constitution.

So go. If your system is like mine, you won't be there more than one day. Tell other people about jury nullification while you're there. Spread the word. And if you decide you want to participate in a trial after all, simply keep jury nullification to yourself and remain a docile panelist. Then apply jury nullification to the case if you feel it's necessary. That's the REAL way to wield your power.

Most states have - One Day, One Trail
So it will only cost you a day. If You are
called for a jury, tell them you know the
Judge,Lawyer, or the Defendant. they
will not want you on that jury - go back
to the lounge and sleep till it's time to go.

ya youll get a nasty letter demanding you explain your contempt of court and a bench warrant to ensure you eventually do so...it sucks yeah but opt outa the voting process when you renew your license...you wont get pinched for jury duty that way.

I beleive they can issue a bench warrant for you if you don't show up or fail to get a legal excuse.

Everyone has to do it and most people don't get paid for it. Suck it up, what makes you so special that you don't do it and everyone else does?
