I have this phobia of chemistry lab..I know it's weird, but I have a panic attack each time I'm in my chem lab..I think this cause is that I didn't do well in this class last semester..I know I can improve myself..

Each time I enter my chem lab, I always breathe heavily or my heart pounds like crazy..I believe these are the symptoms of panic disorder or something like that...

I want to be a doctor, and I know I have to take chem for my pre-req. for med school...but I have a panic attack each time I'm in my chem lab..so how am I supposed to take the class?

I really want to be a doctor..I know nothing will stop me..but this panic attack is driving me crazy..

What should I do? I really want to be a doctor..How can I stop this panic attack?

I'm glad your not letting nothing get in the way. Good for you wanting to become a doctor. You know the best way to deal with it is to face it and over power it because it's powerless. We create alot of negative and it becomes a physical symptom. I use to suffer them real bad where it got to the point where I couldn't be in my own home. It is a form of fobia and I would fight it back by facing it and trust me it hurt but it will turn out to be o.k every time but this went on for a long time and the more I dealt with it the more heaviness of the symptoms were diminishing. This try paralizing me but I was able to finish my police communication classes and I was able to finish my medical assistance class and when it try creeping up I would take deep breaths and focus on my work. I believe there are stages people go through with panic attacks and this is something I still deal with today Like I hate traffic and I feel if I'm stuck I'll have a panic so your never at peace and when i'm at a store I just want to rush through things to make a safe back home. But people have to understand this are real symptoms and we got to convince our self that if nothing happend then what can happen now. And yes alot of the time panic developes when we experience something bad. I dont belive in medacine because if a pill didn't get it there a pill aint going to take it away if anything they make matters worst. And another way you can help the problem is go to your doct for b-12 inj. every two weeks it help's and nourishes the nervous system and strengthens it. I'm getting better I'm getting stronger and when ever i feel the raising of the heart I take control and deal with it and if I feel I failed in any way I go back to face it to overcome it and I know the more I do it the more I win this and become better at it you never know I might end up helping people deal with this I just have to go through it first. You as a doctor might just find the thing for it in a natural way.
Sometimes we go through things to become better people and help others. When we hear story's of other people it help's in many way's there's alway's people who have it worst then other 's in your case is not as bad but just remember your not alone in this mostly everyone suffers them in one form or another and some dont even know it they confuse them with heart attacks and acid reflex. I've heard of people who gone to the hospital not knowing what was happening to them and they end up finding out it was a panic attack caused by anxiety .
The more you face them and the more you deal with them you get better and stronger that is a guarantee it may take time but you will be a winner and you will be a doctor and when you see your first patient with the same problem you will know exactly what they mean and you will be able to help them better then any other doctor that hasn't been there. Your panics only come when your in a certain class that means your getting anguish because your scared you wont do well but yes you will I dont think you will do the same mistakes you did last time if anything your going to do better you know the move so focus on it I did it so can you . Drink plenty of water get plenty of sleep and eat right so you can have streingth to fight this you will see the change.
Good luck !

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

You panic because you are tensed/pressured.

Take it one step at a time. Try to go to the lab when you have no class so you there will be no pressure at all. Bring a friend who understands your situation. Try to stay for a while but do not force yourself to stay longer if you feel uneasy.

Visit the lab regularly (plus study your chemistry lessons), one of these days you will discover that you will no longer panic when inside the lab.

Learn & practice the method at http://deeplyrelax.com Practice for 20 mins daily the method at http://www.selfhelpmagazine.com Meditation room; try it out; mantra meditation; repeat the word: "easy" & try gazing at a lighted candle in a quiet, darkened room. Before lab, use the breathing method, and repeat in your mind your chosen word or short phrase. Make some nettle tea at home & bottle when cooled: drink some 1 hr before & 1 min before, but if you use Valerian root, it may make you sleepy, so don't drive later.

fluorescent lighting shimmers making me feel very uneasy. It is not a constant light but make it seem as the room is vibrating where other light doesnt.
Check the light in the room or go in there in the day when there is not aneed for the lights to be on and see if the room still creeps yyou out
