My car has a bad cylinder apparently and I want to sell it. How can I find someone to buy it? It's running and my bf wants to sell it for $400. But its smokes like crazy too. I'm not putting an ad out here, where can I put one out besides craigslist? Would you purchase it for that much money? How much should I be selling it for? My bf originally wanted to sell it for $500, was that wishfull thinking?

I like this question it's a really good way to put feelers out and get a wide variety of feedback quickly. I would have to pass on this one. The problem is it's age and with that is the concern that if this is happening to the engine, what other kinds of surprises am I going to find when I get into it. Unless it is in otherwise pristine condition, I wouldn't invest anymore money into it, there are lots of people who wouldn't have a problem taking it off your hands for what you are asking. Good Luck!!!

find a charity that will haul it away for free and make it into a tax write off. parting out is only profitable if you actually take it apart and know what parts fetch what price.

if it actually drives then i would try to sell it. if you can get a mechanic to give you a better diagnostic other than "bad cylinder" that would help. massive smoking could lots of things. is the smoke white? or grey/blue? if white it's mostly likely a head gasket leak, which is bad, but really not that bad. if it's grey/blue it could be a number of things, from worn piston rings to valve train issues.

if it doesn't have to be towed you can probably find someone who might pay $400-$500.

Yes, it would depend on make-model-year. List your ad as " parting out " and you will probably find someone who already has one and could use extra parts - like fenders, doors, transmission, etc. You using craigslist is good, you might want to pay for a local classified ad. Where I live we have a little paper, " trading post " it has appliances, pets, and lots of cars listed, the rates are pretty low and a lot of people have good luck selling and buying with it. Good Luck, hope I helped. You might want to run your add " $400.00 - OBO " The OBO means " or best offer ", that way people know you are determined to sell it.

I wouldn't take that car even if you gave it for free.

Fix it, then sell it. Or sell it as a parts car.

Depends on what car it is.... if it's a Ferrari, yes, if it's a FORD, then you'd have to pay me to take it.
