I was born in the US with a US father and British Mother. So currently I have a US passport. Previuosly I could not apply for British citizenship on my Mothers side due to rule did not come into effect until 1982 and it was not retroactive. They have now passed a rule that if i was born after 1961 I can now become a UK citizen. I am in the process of doing this. Can I keep my US passport and be a dual citizen?

I would say as you were born a US citizen then they cannot remove your citizenship.

Your mom can be a dual US and UK citizen - you however cannot be a dual as neither of your parents was born in the UK. UK citizenship is only passed down one generation at a time so your grandfather can pass his citizenship to your mother (because he was born in UK) - but she cannot pass it down to you (because she was not born in UK)

Yes, you can noww have dual UK / US citizenship. I'm a UK citizen living in the US and that was what stopped me from becoming a US Citizen. Now they have changed the laws and I will not lose my UK citizenship then I will become a US citizen when my green card expires.

yes, you can become a US/UK Dual citizen!!!
Dual citizenship may be acquired in many ways including: birth abroad, marriage to a foreign citizen, through a foreign citizen parent or by application for citizenship in another country.
