There are many stories behind it actually maybe the country's geographical line is too wide and that cause its government impossible to manage as one of the reason. Honestly this country is one of the poorest in this region of Asia which lead to many corruptions and has resulted in slowing down the progress of the development in this country.It is widely known that the country is sitting on a quake prone equator line and hence the unthinkable will happen.
Furthermore, when the racial riot horror (rape, torturing etc..) happened a long time ago,the military is slow to responce which resulted many people died innocently.
For now, the sins which 'bad' people had created, it could be a bad omen which resulted causing many disasters happening and many innocent Indonesians killed for the last 10 years....such as earthquakes, tsunami, planes crash, riots, train crash, building collaspse and terrorists...
You name it they have it!

Natural disaster, no one can help it. It span across the volcanic ring and also straddle the geographic plates So, what to do?
Human error disaster, this will be easier to point finger.

some are because of the people itself....cutting offf trees, abusing natural resource without and care to the environment, lack of good system (plane crash)
some are the act of God...maybe too many sinners

The plane and sea vessel accidents are unprecented. The government should ensure that safety regulations are in place to protect the interest of the riding public.
