Chase... my son loves it... just say in a sing-song voice, "I'm gonna get you!" or "You better run!" and creep around the house. Or the pots and pans and a wooden spoon. Or you can let him pull out all of the plastic containers you can find. Or patty cake. Or push him inside a laundry basket... just don't go too fast. Or read to him. Or peek-a-boo. Or take him to a park, but you'll have to stay within an arm's reach. Or build a fort (expect him to tear it down within five minutes though... if you can even get it up in the first place). Or let him play on a keyboard. Or teach him to use a paper towel roll as a trumpet. Or take him to a toy store and let him play there. Or let him walk in your yard (they LOVE that).
Really any game you can think of (as long as its really simple) he will love. Especially if it involves repetition.

I have a 20-month old son and have some suggestions a 1 year old may like: 1) reading him books with not many words and lots of pictures (don't stay on one page too long they get bored). 2) push him around the block or at the mall in the stroller (just don't stop for too long) 3) if you have a pool - he'd love that just hold him and swing him around 4) play lively music and hold him in your arms as you dance 5) try building a tower of blocks for him then knocking them over and rebuilding to let him do it. 6) play peek-a-bo with a blanket over your face and then try covering his. Good luck. It's a challenging age to play with!

There's lots you can do! If you mean fun for him, kids that age often love challenges, the like to see what they can do. Try a whole lot of things, and you'll know which ones he likes. If you mean fun for you, well, sometimes that means a bit of an adjustment of your definition of fun. Take fun in his giggles! Forget about being 'cool' or what your friends would think, and get down to the level of a 1 year old.
Here are things I do with my son, that I think I was doing around 12 months too (he's 14 months):
He LOVES either destroying piles I make/taking things out of a box when I put them in, or secreting things away in boxes.
I pick him up and dangle him (carefully) upside down. Pull him right side up again. UPSIDEDOWN CAMERON! I sing-song, then "RIGHTSIDEUP CAMERON!" Sometimes I'll hesitate with him upside down and swing him (gently, only in the middle of the room - check with the parents before you do this, and only if he enjoys it!) tick-tock-tick-tock. We're not talking swinging by the legs around and around, just gentle.
I'll also lie on the floor with him on my tummy, roll him to his back and pick him up by the hips, touch forehead to forehead, basically slow-speed fun tumbling.
He loves clabouring all over me.
Is he walking yet? If so, he might 'get' chase! Find a chair or ottoman, play peek around the c orner, he'll follow, back up back up back up, keeping him entertained with peek-around. Then turn, scoot around and surprise him from behind with tickle! This will also work if he's 'cruising' (walking around holding onto furniture). If not, is he walking with hand-holding support? This can occupy ages!
He likes being read to. Usually just one or two books.
Pat-a-cake!
Peek!
Long walks
swings
He LOVES baths. Ask the parents if that's something you can do, and to show you how.
Give-it-away-take-it-back!
DANCING - put on the music and walz, tango, salsa, or just make it up as you go along.

Peek a boo and song games are always winners with my son. His favorites are the itsy-bitsy spider and old macdonald. Also, he loves toy cars and anything to beat on. If you don't have a drum, give him a few pots, bowls, and spoons.
Have fun!

Try finger painting he is just old enough to think it is fun. If you don't think he is ready for that, get some bubbles and blow them for him. Little kids think that is great. About that age he would probably enjoy building blocks or stacking something similar. Try turning music on and singing and dancing with him. Or try getting pans or bowls and turning them upside down and letting him bang on them with a plastic or wooden spoon. Enjoy your time with him!

What's his favorite TV show? My little cousins loved it when I would sing and dance with them to the Wiggles.
