Was he a drinker? Is it OK for mankind to imbibe? He spoke that we should be sober and keep gaurd? As a drinker myself, this issue confuses me.

I m sure that Jesus drank wine as that was the custom of the area and time. The significance of His first miracle was not necessarily what He did. Rather, the significance was that He did it. He began His ministry. I also like to think that it was significant that His first miracle was at His mother's request (He listened to and respected His mother) and that He showed that He (and therefore God) wants to be part of the good times of our lives.

The big deal here is really something special. There is practical truth and symbolic truth to be had from this event. Symbolically, wine represents JOY. Jesus had the servants fill the six jugs to the very brim with the water turned into wine...he fills us with joy, as six is the number representing men. His mother told the servants, " do whatever he commands you to do"...certainly no better advice has ever been given! The guest complimented the host on bringing out the best wine last, instead of first...meaning that with Jesus, it just gets better and better. Contrasting with sin, where the thrill comes first, then the remorse and destruction and consequences. Its ok to drink, but don't get drunk or let it harm anyone else, or your relationship with God. Jesus drank wine at the last supper.

I guess you speak of water into wine. Jesus had nothing against alcohol. It was the abuse of it, as it made most people act stupid and could cause others, including themselves, harm.
As far as a Drinker, I not think Jesus partook of Alcohol often, but, we must understand the Passover, they "DID" drink real wine, not grape juice. Paul addressed this in 1 Corinthians 11:1-22 because people were getting Stupid. In knowing the "True" Passover, then we must ask; Was Jesus under the Nazarite vow?

The first miracle established that Jesus was divine. He turned water to wine so the host of the wedding would not be embarrassed. He did it to help someone, but it did so much more. People now realized the Glory of who He was and is! Of course later He used the cup and wine to represent His Blood that was shed for all of us.

May God Bless you.

Jesus turned water into wine to prove His real nature to the disciples. The ultimate purpose of the miracle was to reveal His Glory, with the result being faith in Him. It's interesting that Jesus had no interest in recruiting faith in the members of the wedding party, or the steward of the feast. Even though the servants knew the provenance of the wine, Jesus didn't perform the miracle to convince them. His only interest was to reveal his true, inner being to six men-a glory that would be uncovered completely only one time in His ministry - at His transfiguration. The sign achieved its purpose, for His disciples believed in Him.

That is the first one only recorded in the book of John. Drinking is permissible but we have to learn control and that is the hard one. It is a no brainer to see what an excess of alcohol does. Paul also drank for his health and encouraged Timothy to use it medicinally

The bible says not to get drunk and be given to wine (alcohol), it does not say that we cannot enjoy alcohol in moderation and responsibly. In fact in Proverbs it says "God created wine to gladden the hearts of men". Jesus did drink "real" wine, after all how do you think they could preserve grape juice in the Middle East from one harvest to the next with no refridgeration?

The significance is that Jesus, while being God and Savior, is also a willing servant of humanity, primarily because he loves us, but also because a precious few of us, who make a solid effort to cooperate with his grace, merit his favor.

He knew that some would come in His name and decry all alcohol consumption and He just wanted to make sure they didn't have a Biblical position to work from.

Wine was often used in ancient cultures, as the water wasn't clean/purified as we have it today. Being fermented, it was often healther to drink than the water.
