How do you say that they can't agree on what is sin? Sin is simply doing that which God says one shouldn't.
Some problems come up when one speaks of individual sins, such as homosexuality. The reason for this is that one may argue what the Bible actually says about this. With translations come areas of abmiguity. Too, with ancient languages, some phrases and words cannot actually be completely understood.
Also, the statement that the Bible is all that is needed is erroneous. Understanding the Bible presupposes an understanding of the culture, language and history of the original speakers. Outside context, the Bible CANNOT be fully understood. (Of course Christians have the magic holy spirit to explain what was REALLY meant by such terms as the "eye fo the neeldle", and historians really aren't necessary.)

Because they don't want to accept God's simple and clear definition of sin.
1 John 3:4 -- Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and SIN IS LAWLESSNESS.
And, of course, the Law God is primarily concerned with is the law he gave mankind to live by -- the 10 Commandments.
Most Protestant churches are strongly averse to the keeping of God's Sabbaths as he defines it; and they're not too thrilled about the one against making, and worshipping before, idols (such as crosses).

Traditionally, protestants have found much agreement on the nature of sin (something to the effect of a lack of conformity to God's character). The reason modern protestants have failed to find agreement is that we are largely biblically illiterate. Nevertheless, I'm sure you will find the same problem amongst lay Catholics.

Protestants have this wrong notion that the Bible is all they need. Nowhere in Scripture does it explicitly or implicitly say that the Bible is the sole infallible guide to Christian doctrine and practice. Did Jesus stop talking to his Church after the Bible was published?
Faith justifies initially, but works perfect and complete our salvation. If all it takes to be saved is "to confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead" (Romans 10,9) then why must I change? Oh sure, I should change my sinful ways. I should try to please God. But if I don't does it really matter? My salvation is assured?
Salvation is a process of perseverance through faith, hope and love. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that one is justified or saved by "faith alone." On the contrary, man is not justified by faith alone. A person is justified by faith and works acting together, which comes solely from God's divine grace. Faith alone never obtains the grace of justification. Also, the word "justified" is the same word Paul uses for justification in Romans 4,3 in regard to Abraham (so Protestants cannot argue James is not referring to "justification" in James 2,24 unless they argue Paul wasn't either in Romans 4,3).
(See also: Luke 24,47; Acts 2,38, 3,19, 17,30; John 3,36; 2 Corinthians 10,15; 13,15; Galatians 5,6)
Peace and every blessing!

not sure exactly, especially since the Bible tells us what sin is. 1 John 3:4 "...sin is transgression of the Law" and taken in context, the law that verse is refering to is God's moral Law, the 10 Commandments.

Why do so many people worry about these things they supposedly don't believe in anyway? I think you really ALL do know that God is in existance, you are just too afraid to admit it to yourselves. If you truly didn't think He existed, you wouldn't be so worried about the Protestants would you? That's illogical to worry about something you don't believe is real. I don't worry about monsters in my closet at night because I don't believe they exist. Listen to God, He is in your heart. He wants you to accept him and ask forgiveness for your sins. You already are exhibiting that you have faith in his existance, just take the next step. God loves you!

Because Protestantism is all about reading the Bible to find the truth for yourself and then convincing everyone else that your interpretation is better than theirs so that you can convince everyone who is wrong to give money to your ministry until you annoy them and then they go on to someone whose interpretation is even better.
