I have an error with my windows media player it was working fine this afternoon. Then this evening I've gone to open the player and it came up with an error message windows media player not installed correctly, then gave me the option to go to microsofts website to reinstall the player. However when i go to reinstall it won't allow me to as it states there is a component missing. I've tried deleting my current version before reinstalling however it won't let me remove the media player either. I've scanned my laptop it's not showing any present viruses in the media player, i don't know what to do?

Be careful about deleting it you might lose all your music, try on here first Zac used to work for Microsoft

http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html
he dont answer emails , so dont try
if you can find your answer there try here

im surprised that reinstalling it as not worked , it did for me also you might want to find out what your sound card is/ who makes it ,and if theres any update drivers, i know Realtek audio97 have just brought out a new HD version, but if you dont check , you dont find out, some of this stuff does not come as auto updates

You have to be careful when you delete as when you go from media player 10 to media player 11 it upgrades ,therefore combining using same components.Try system restore. If still a problem Id got to microsoft and try to download media palyer 9 . then goto updates and let it upgrade to 10 then ending in 11. Hope it helps you! Remember to not delete but rather uninstall.Less problems.....

Install K-lite mega codec pack. It even comes with preset optios for streaming media, then media player 11 will work.

your operating system is NOT defective. sheesh.

I would assume that you tried to delete the media player from add/remove programs, if not, then do that. Then re-download the media player. Still no luck? Then try clicking the help feature on microsoft.com.

Worst comes to worst, get realplayer. But you should be able to get you WMP11 back without replacing you ENTIRE operating system. that's just crazy.

Your operating system is defective. I recommend replacing
it with one of:

http://fedora.redhat.com
http://www.opensuse.org
http://www.debian.org
http://www.ubuntu.org
http://www.slackware.org
http://www.freebsd.org
http://www.opensolaris.org

Any of these will be more reliable, less susceptible to
viri, uses your hardware more efficiently, and they're
all free.
