I really don't have the money for a vet so I am looking for tell-tale signs of pregnancy in a cat. I do not know if she was spaded, we found her wandering around our house.

terribly sorry I did not put the correct form "spayed" in my question.

Also it is not because we allow her to 'wander' she has no home and for the past two weeks we have provided her with food and a place to sleep at night (she likes to go out in the day)

your cat may sleep more and just a few weeks into her pregnancy her nipples will become more pink and larger. she will also want more food and she may become very affectionate. those are the first signs you will notice. however if its just a stray cat you proly wont know if her demeanor has changed at all. but after 5-6 weeks she will start to gain weight. and like everyone else said the further along she gets the more she will begin to nest. so again make sure you have some places made up so she feels safe to give birth.

Her belly will start to form little lumps, the hair around the nipples will start to seperate, the nipples will become pink and the cat will usually start becoming very affectionate at first.

About five weeks after conception, the cat will start to show...the belly will grow and become more firm and the cat will become more lathargic (if that's possible :)).

A cats gestation cycle (pregnancy) is about 62-64 days....after she's started to show you'll want to make sure that you've provided her with a safe place to have her babies.

Make sure she's getting plenty of water and great nutirition while she's pregnant.

the first distinct signs of pregnancy happen around two or three weeks after mating. If pregnant, your cat's nipples will start to "pink up" and enlarge a bit in preparation for milk. Then, at between three and four weeks of pregnancy, she may get morning sickness and vomit from time to time. From four weeks onward, the kittens will be visible on an x-ray or sonogram, and may be able to be counted.
Finally, at five weeks your cat's abdomen will start to enlarge. At roughly seven weeks, the queen may begin to lose her appetite and refuse to eat. At this point, the kittens' movement can easily be felt. At seven to eight weeks, she will spend a lot more time grooming herself and might look for a place to have her kittens. Her nipples will then also become even more swollen. They might even expel milky fluid between two to five days before birth.

First of all, decide whether or not you want to keep the cat or not. If you do, you need to keep her inside and feed her plenty of good food. None of that IAMS crap that you get at grocery stores. Go to a pet store (preferably a vet but you can't afford one) and ask for the best food available for a pregnant queen. She is going to need lots for the strength of having kittens and raising them.

Secondly, to actually tell, she'll get very defensive of her stomach area and will keep to herself most of the time. She'll eat HUGE amounts of food and drink much more water than usual. Lastly, you'll notice she'll be getting larger as the weeks go by. If she is outdoors allot and you don't know if she's been spayed, assume she's pregnant as this is the season for cats to give birth in mass numbers.

Please do not take this lightly, these are little lives in your care and should be treated as such.

The cat will definitely look bigger, also the nipples will swell a bit and you will start to feel small lumps and even movement in the lower belly of the cat, just feel around, keep the cat calm while you check though, they will become irritated

I would call a cat rescue and let them take over. They will make sure she sees a vet, find a home for the kittens and get her spayed and adopted.

If she is pregnant you should be able to feel the kittens moving a few weeks before she has her babies, other than that size is about all you have(ya know the big belly)

If kittens come out of her, she was pregnant. And its SPAYED. If she's wandering loose, she'll get knocked up sooner or later.

Don't imply judgement where there is none: I said if she's wandering loose, not IF YOU ALLOW HER TO WANDER LOOSE.
