We're not that close, so Mom and Dad aren't as comfortable and they're much older than me, so the first name thing doesn't work either. Am I the only one that calls their in-laws Mr. & Ms.?

It is proper to call them by their first names but you should ask them first to be sure they wouldn't mind.

It is a few names that I would LOVE to call my sister in law. But for my mother and father in law, I simply call them Mr and Ms and by the last name.

You have to call them Mom and Dad even if you are not close. That is what you call your in-laws and what other people call theirs. It's a show of respect not closeness. What does you spouse call your parents? Mr and Mrs?

Ask your husband or your in-laws what they prefer to be called. Hopefully you will have a wonderful relationship with them, and I think calling them by their first names is fine. They call you by your first name, right? They're your relatives first, and anything else second.

I alternate between Mom and Dad and their first names. Mr and Mrs last name here is so formal. Honorifics like sir and ma'am work in a pinch, but for the most part you can make it easier on your self by asking your spouse who he/she would prefer you address them. That may solve the whole issue in one go. Especially if your spouse acts on it and asks them how they want you to address them.

Their age is unimportant. I call my husband's mother by her first name. Just start doing it, your comfort level will even out.

Mr/Mrs is not appropriate when you have married. It would be if you were just dating.

I call mine by their first names.

Since they're your in-laws the age thing goes out the window....ask them what they would like you to call them.

I call them "Mom and Dad"--I was so blessed to have wonderful in-laws that love me. I am closer to my mother-in-law than my own mother!!
