Unless you are comatose, you are burning more than 500 calories a day. The obvious answer is that you should consume the same number of calories as you expend.
That can be anywhere along a continuum. Lumberjacks can burn 5000 calories a day.

the healthy intake for humans on a daily basis is about 2,100 calories , i know itsounds crazy but your probably not only burning 500 calories, all your daily proceeders even sitting down or laying down is burning calories, you dont have to eat fatty food or anything just eat good foods with the suffient amount of calories (fruits are a really good source also especially if your working out a lot) good luck! :]

go to the website below to get a good estimate of what your daily caloric intake should be based on your body composition and daily level of activity. once you determine your caloric intake then you can subtract the 500 cal a day deficit that is created through the diet/daily exercise to lose 1 lb of fat a week

this means your are eating less than 1100 calories a day--not a lot really.
Try eating 1200, you won't lose weight faster but you'll find it easier to keep it off!

It depends on how much weight you want to lose, but I wouldn't go much lower. That sounds about right. Keep it up!

You don't need to do either. That is more than enough to help you lose weight.
