It's your engagement. You can be engaged for 3 or 4 decades if you want. I knew a couple of people who were perpetually engaged. Just curious though ... why do you want to wait 3-4 years? What is going to change by then that couldn't change if you were married?

I think that's perfectly fine.. being engaged only shows the intention of marriage, it doesn't have an expiration date... and I can understand wanting to take the relationship a step further with engagement, but you're not quite ready for marriage... I got engaged about 1 1/2 years ago, and we're probably not getting married for another year, just b/c I've been in college and we're really not financially ready to marry... anyway, congrats!

I don't think it's weird to be engaged that long I just think it's prolonging everything. If your ready to get married why not just get married? But there's a lot of people who do it so if you guys are serious and want to get engaged then you certainly can. Who cares what everyone else thinks if your in love. It's ultimately your decision

Take it from a person who has been married for over ten years. WAIT. You never know what the future will bring to you. Things and feelings may change during that time.

It's not wierd at all. It's good to know that it will happen when you're ready, and no one can force you to make that decision too soon.
