Money given out everyday to Charities, high overhead for soup kitchen's and rental assistance programs. Low donations, no charge services, High liability insurance, huge building taxes (only exempt from income and sales tax), etc. etc.

Simple fact most Churches just about break even.

Also the Cathoic Church is only the richest institution because of what it owns in terms of art and architecture (which are priceless) but really the Church does not have cash. You can;t cut down the ceiling of the sistine chapel to buy a pepsi. Also neither can they liquidate these things to raise cash. They are bound by an agreement to keep them as a historical record for humanity.

Halo in response: 100 million is not the correct figure, it is actually 3 billion total. They can sell off Church buildings and properties (which they have done and parishes are closing) but they will be paying it off for the next 25 to 50 years. But really also a huge chunk of the money is coming from Catholic Charities and humanitarian assistance missions funding too. What makes them the richest though is the priceless works, those they cannot sell off.

dsd: You work for the I.R.S. ? Churches ARE under very CLOSE scrutiny of the Government (I.R.S.), as they are classed as charities. How does a church run it self and pay its bills ? The Government would have to give welfare supplements to support it, then. Nothing is for free in the materialistic world and costs are soaring for any operation in North America, especially. Maybe when the churches get out of the serving and helping in society business, people like you would volunteer and pay financial support for feeding the homeless, poor and the disabled for starters - right ? !!! (LOL) !!!

You are sadly mistaken my Friend. The vast majority of Churches are on the brink of bankruptcy. Most banks will not give loans to churches, because they cannot guarantee them a certain amount of income every month.

The Roman Catholic Church, I heard, is the richest institution in the world. An institution is not a business though, so take it as you will.

The Catholic Church paid $100 million in settlement for sex abuse. Where do they come up with that kind of money?
