I volunteer at the library regularly. I work on a tutoring and mentoring project, so my group works with the local children to help them with their homework on a regular basis. There really wasn't too much of a requirement, other than patience and a supportive attitude.

Some libraries do have volunteer applications, and there really wasn't too much of a requirement, other than the standard stuff that is required in job descriptions these days, like standing, lifting, reaching, sorting, etc.

you would have to check with the specific library at which you want to volunteer.

:) They may need volunteers for many different things; ask them. But if they want you to "read shelves" (verify books are in the right place) you need to be comfortable alphabetizing.
