I have been sick since Mon night with a high fever & my throat hurts very bad. The Dr. said I have a white pocket of infection behind my left tonsil. My cbc showed my white count at 14. I am taking Azithromyacin & I have had 2 high powered antibiotic shots. I haven't slept in days. Could this be staph infection? Please help me

Hi, sorry you're feeling bad. You have a bacterial infection, sounds like tonsilitis. The white pocket the Dr. observed are your tonsils trying to "ilsolate" the infection so it won't spread, just like glands. I'd bet the glands in your neck are swollen & painful to the touch also. Your white blood cells are lymphocytes, these little guys are like an army trying their best to fight this infection but need some help & that's where antibiotics come in. Antibiotics work in different ways, like interfering with the reproduction of bacteria.

Your antibiotic Zith works approximately 30 days or so, it is a powerfull antibiotic. I hope they did a culture on you. This would isolate the particular strain of infection, and treat it with the best meds. Not all antibiotics kill all bacteria. If you don't see an improvement of symptoms after day 4-6 I would go back.

If you continue to have the same problem with your tonsils in the future you may want an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) Dr. to see you. Chronic Tonsil infections can can reak havic on your tonsils, and you'll need to get them removed. Theraflu is great for pain, and should help you rest. If you can bare to eat, chicken noodle soup does have healing properties & will be soothing to the throat after the first few sips. Zinc & Vitamin C are great, and lastly gargle with warm salt water.

Hope you feel better soon!

well your doctor should have swabbed and cultered that "white pocket" to find out what it is. i doubt it is staph. sounds more like strep but white patches always make me think of candida (fungus). at 14 your wbc are high but its not crazy high. you obviously have an infection. i know it sounds hard but you need to drink lots of water. i know it hurts but you may end up in the ER bc you are dehyrated which will make everything worse. if your not feeling better by saturday id head to the ER. in the meantime try some sleep aids, tylenol pm or something. good luck

Sounds like strep throat. You should have responded to the antibiotic by now. 3 days' treatment is enough with azith. Go back to the dr. for a change of antibiotic. Your prelim. culture results should also be in by now.

I'm sorry. Here are some Warm Fuzzies to help you feel better.
It sounds like strep but if your doctor don't know I would say you might need to see another doc.
Get well soon.

Did they test you for mono? That's what it sounds like. If your glands are swollen, and you have a fever and feel very tired, it could be mono nucleosis.
