i've had type 2 diabetes for over 10 years. keep your carbs low...around 20-30 grams/day. eat an adequate amount of protein, eat lots of veggies and fresh fruits...be careful of starchy foods like rice, potatoes, bananas, etc. reduce your saturated fats. drink lots of water. eat small meals more frequently throughout the day. don't drink non-diet sodas, exercise regularly, eat lean meats, take your meds at the same time everyday. don't eat late at night. always keep some glucose tablets, paste, or hard candies with you, in case your sugars drop too low. you might find a local support group helpful. and also, there are really good websites with dibetes recipes...do a google search. best of luck to you.

we do not know the type of diabetes you have or meds you are taking. ask your doctor for a referrral to a Diabetic Education Class -covered by insurance and very helpful.
in the meantime, reduce you carbs and sugars. drink lots of water and take your meds.

Whole grains, fresh veggies (but NO white potatoes) and lean meats. Avoid foods high in fat, starch (white potatoes, corn, white flour), and sugar. Purple and red potatoes are good. 100% whole wheat bread and pastas are good. Lots of fresh veggies and olive oils. Good luck!
