When getting an eye exam, what does the pinhole screen correct for?

I have double vision in one eye and couldn't read anything, but with this screen, it was nearly perfect.

It checks for things like Glaucoma, double Vision and other eye ailments. I just had an Eye Exam in January and they did the same thing with my eyes and I asked what they were doing. I have to wear Reading Glasses. I am getting old and he says its normal.
