She will stand at her water dish, lean over, and dip the feathers on the right side of her neck in the water. It's so strange. She's almost three and is a Senegal parrot, if that helps at all.

She will stand at her water dish, lean over, and dip the feathers on the right side of her neck in the water. It's so strange. When she bathes, it's different. She clumsily falls into her dish and tries to get her entire body wet, albeit unsuccessfully. Later, she may preen that area, and it looks like she could be trying to suck the water out. I'm pretty sure she isn't bathing. We used to have a Quaker, and I don't recall him doing anything of the sort. She's almost three and is a Senegal parrot, if that helps at all.

It is common for parrots or birds for that matter to do mini bird bathes like that, some will even try and bathe in the smallest puddle and splish n splash with what little they have tro work with... even just a water dish...

I suggest you check out http://www.BirdBoard.com probably the largest and foremost exotic bird owner forum / message board online of all sites.

She would like to take a bath. Get a pie plate filled with water and let her play in that. Some birds even like to run around under a running faucet.

She's just bathing so relax, calm down, and take a deep breath. Your bird is fine. It's just bathing. My cockatiel does it all the time. I got freaked out and called the vet. He told me to calm down and that he was just bathing himself. Now, does that answer your question?

Birds tend to be vain. Typically they spend a lot of time concerned about themselves. If you don't already have a mirror for your parrot invest in one. Also birds can be neurotic and need to amuse themselves with seemingly stupid behaviour. Also birds crave attention. Birds mate for live so if you bought your bird after it has already done so...your bird could be lonely and mourning. Hope this helps.

Perfectly normal for a healthy and happy polly. Give him/her a large bowl of watter and stand back so you don't get splashed!

I've seen parrots do that before I think he's just cleaning him self but I'd take him to the vet anyway.
