It's not only about how many calories you take in, but the source of the calories as well. Calories from fatty and starchy foods are not as good for you as calories from lean meats and vegetables and fruit. Stay away from salty food too. Salt will hold moisture in your body and bloat you. 1500-1800 calories a day from GOOD SOURCES OF FOOD along with exercise.

No junk food, no fast food, no cookies, limit your amount of bread intake and switch to multi-grain breads. White breads, white rice and potatoes are high in starch. Limit them as well.

Just remember to use moderation in what you eat. You will not loose much weight if you do not exercise as well. That is something you will have to work on, and gradually increase over time as your body becomes more acclimated to excersice. Start going on 20-30 minute walks after you eat, do not sit around and watch TV when you finish.

1000 calories a day is not even close to being enough to fill your bodies needs for a day! Figure out about how many calories you normally eat in one day. You should eat about two hundred calories less than you do now to lose weight but still fulfill your daily needs. I am only about a year older than you and weigh about 170 pounds and have tried to lose weight as well. I found a great book that helped me a lot. It's called The Diet for Teenagers Only. It has things like recipes that will really help you lose weight.

really about 1200 min is the very lowest you would want to go, and you shouldn't be taking something like Metamucil for this purpose, just drinking water will make you feel more full and you should be drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day just follow this basic plan
Breakfast 1 fruit, 1 starch, 1 protein, 1 fat

snack 1 starch, 1 vegi.1 fruit

lunch 2 fat, 2 starch,2 protein 1 vegi,

snack 1 starch, 1 fat, 1 vegi

dinner 3 starch 3 fat, 3 protein, 2 vegi

snack 1 starch 1 fruit 1 fat

Try doing 1400 kcal and working out for at least 20 minutes a day. If you don't like gyms, try brisk walking, bike with a friend, get a workout dvd, or just dance in your room to your favorite songs.
At your age, it is extremely important that you get all the nutrients you need, and it's equally important that you get adequate work outs .

my health teacher last year (8th grade) said that below 1600 calories is starvation mode, and ur body hoards everything it can and doesnt help lose weight. i dont know how reliable he is, but thats what i know. so, go here http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index.aspx
then here
http://www.mypyramidtracker.gov/
they are the actual suggestions from the government.

1500 a day is probably more healthy for youre age, height etc. also if you are trying to lose weight, then find something you enjoy doing where you can be a little more active. and please please please only take metamusil for its intended purpose. my doctor actually told me that if you take in to much fiber, and not drink enough water to balance it out, then it actually becomes like cement. try drinking coffe if you can tolerate it. it gives me thta full feeling! good luck with your weightloss - but do it safely!
