because they're focused on the game. talk to them during the commercial break or when it's over. if they called you or initiated the conversation, then tell them to stop wasting your time, and to come and find you when they're not busy.
i know how it feels because i get the same way when someone bothers me during law and order or the office. especially when they see that i'm really into it, and they can't take the hint.

Many people have trouble concentrating on 2 things at one time. Men at times are more in tune with sports than what others are saying regardless of if it is on the phone or in person. I do not think it has anything to do w/hockey itself, but with the television itself. Personally, even though I am female, I cannot talk on the phone and watch TV at the same time because I tend to "zone" when I watch TV and then I do not really listen to the person I am talking to. I do not know what particularly happened that makes you call the guy you were talking to a jerk, but if it was just an ignoring issue, it may be that he cannot concentrate on both the game and you at the same time. It does not excuse the actions, but it at least explains them. I know I get told to move out of the way if wrestling is on, even if I am just kissing my man.

Why do guys in Canada like hockey? So them and thier dogs can watch the game at the same time!

i guess it applies to basketball as well. well when a guy watches a sport he enjoys he wants to put all of his attention on the game. He doesent wanna miss a big play. I watch basketball all the time and the thing that annoys me alot is when someone is trying 2 make me stop watchin it
