We are living in a time when an entire generation of children are being raised without any form of teaching or training in the Word. There is a vacuum to be filled , because we as humans have an innate desire to know "where we come from and why we are here". Education in evolutionary theory is not fulfilling this desire.
That being said, books such as Harry Potter come along and you have millions of children eating it up like it's the newest candy! The difference is that they are emulating the world of Harry, they are casting spells - all in good fun of course...
But as believers in Christ, it's up to us to explain the difference to our children.
My girls both love Harry Potter. They know that it's fiction. They know it's entertaining, that Harry isn't real. They also know that casting spells is not a good thing, whether it's "white" or "dark" magic.
If you read "lord of the rings" your desire is not to emulate a hobbit. For millions of kids, this is not the case when reading harry potter.
:)

I'm a Christian ,and I don't have a problem with Harry Potter. My kids and I like to watch the movies when they come out in the theaters. I don't believe it will lead the kids to want to practice the occult. It's about good vs. evil. If anything it will teach the kids that, there evil in the world, and it's up to the good guys to fight it. If they don't then the evil will take over. As a kid my favorite show was "Bewitched", I don't remember anyone having a problem with that show.

I too am a Christian and have never viewed Harry Potter as a threat or attack to Christianity. I looked at it as another way to show how good fights evil in a very entertaining way. It is a very fanciful way and a good escape from reality. Harry Potter is entertainment only. So I agree with you..

Christians who say that Harry Potter promotes witchcraft have no idea what real-world witchcraft is.
Take it from a witch -- what you see in Harry Potter has about as much relationship to the REAL practice of witchcraft as the Tooth Fairy does to the practice of dentistry.
All children are going to learn from Harry Potter is how to speak in fractured Latin, which is pretty poor training for any career in the magical arts.

Some preachers in my area are all upset over Harry Potter, claiming it will lead young folks into the occult. Personally I feel that if kids are going to get involved in the occult, Harry Potter is no more likely to take them there than Mother Goose of the Grimm Brothers fairy tales. It boils down to how the child is brought up ... but that is just my opinion.

It's because all those parents were making a big fuss about kids pretending to cast magic. Adults always underestimate children. As the children really believed that Harry Potter was real.

I'm a Christian, and I enjoy the Harry Potter movies. My kids watch them and they like them too. I really don't know what all the fuss is about, the movies (I haven't read the books but my daughter has) are fantasy and I really enjoy that genre.

There is certainly nothing wrong with any series of books that gets millions of people reading. As for the 'witchcraft' elements, the books are works of fiction and not instructional texts - at least, I've never been able to turn one of my students into a ferret.

Harry Potter is full of magic and spiritism.
Both things are condemned in the bible.
Saul was removed as king of Israel after serving as such for less than 2 years because he turned to a spirit medium for guidance instead of looking to Jehovah.

I think people freak out about it due to the witchcraft and Christians don't believe in it. It's not something they want their children intersted in. But, I believe if you bring your children up knowing the difference between right and wrong, these movies aren't going to hurt them to see. I've seen them all myself. It's more like a fairy tale. I'd let my kids watch it. No issues here and I am a Christian.
