At the same time the heterosexual gene evolved :)

I just hope we never find both genes. Homophobes will start screaming for a cure for the gay gene, babies will get aborted after they find it has a gay gene, etc, etc.

If I were religious, I'd pray now that such a gene will never be found.

There's no way to trace the first occurance of it. However, its presence in certain species of reptiles suggest it developed prior to the mammalian branch of life.
