Many times.
I never wanted to be an atheist. I spent three to four years of terror and pain fighting tooth and nail to renew my faith or to hold on until God renewed it.
I still think if I could find a way to believe again, I might actually go for it. But the proof would have to be overwhelming considering I've seen past the curtain and see the proof that there is no possibility for the existence of any deity at all, Yahweh or otherwise.

That's a pretty interesting question. I grew up believing in God. I had a very STRONG faith growing up. Believe me, when the doubts started to come, I fought tooth and nail! I spent nights awake crying. I attended church regularly. I talked with Priests, Pastors, and other Christians. I read the Bible--both the Old and New Testaments, TWICE. Nothing answered my questions, though. "Have faith" didn't work. It was an extremely painful process.
Now, I am perfectly confident in my beliefs. Sometimes, I miss being a believer, because it was such a big part of my childhood, and there's comfort in those memories. I had a lot of fun in church when I was a kid. I don't think I'd say I WISH I could believe in God, but I guess in a way I sort of miss the way church made me feel as a kid. The actual beliefs associated with it are completely gone, though, and I'm fine with THAT.

I think your question is badly worded. "Do I wish I could believe in god?"
I don't have to wish...there's a million gods out there....I could believe in any of them if I wanted to....there's nothing stopping me believing in a god if I choose to...I don't need to wish about it.
I think what you really mean is "do you wish there was a god" which suggests that really you know there isn't one.
I suppose it would be good in some ways if there was some all powerful being looking after us ensuring that the good are rewarded and the bad are punished, but life doesn't work like that does it.

As an atheist I would say the question is incorrectly worded. I wish there was a God. I don't wish I could believe in him/her/it as I can do that with ease. I just need some proof before I start devoting my life to something I can't see and preaching teachings that I don't fully understand.

Atheists, if you can believe that there is no God and that the World, with all it infinite beauty and sciences just happened...then my friends YOU HAVE MORE FAITH THEN US CHRISTIANS...
I propose the following to you, if you take a wrist watch with all its intricacies and you take out all the parts, needles screws etc. Then you go to the highest point you can imagine-like take a plane or even a spacecraft and from this point drop all the parts of the watch-would you believe that the watch could come together and be totally functional as if you had not taken it apart.
I don't think many if not anyone would say yes it would com together(be created as it is meant to be)! So how can you say the WORLD just came about???? Surely logic says there is a God.
For all the philosophers out there.See Pascal's Wager!! The great philosopher himself concluded that it makes logical sense to believe in God.

I prefer I did now and returned only so i ought to slot in... i'm afraid my boss will by some ability comprehend i'm an atheist, and he's a extreme Christian. I appreciate him lots and that i might hate to allow him down lots. yet i'm no longer able to. i've got tried and that i'm no longer able to in basic terms settle for that God will punish a superbly ethical person in basic terms for no longer accepting Jesus. additionally, that is completely functional that this earth became formed and stepped forward by the years devoid of the interference of a god. it incredibly is a shameful secret that I save to myself, frequently because of the fact I stay interior the bible belt.

Depends. I wish I could believe in an afterlife, for obvious reasons.
I'm glad i don't believe in the judgmental God as is described in the Bible. But of course I would wanna believe in a God that would be Love.

I am an atheist and I do believe in God.
We are all the same. We all have the same existing Life.
God is our most inner Question and Answer. We all ask same Questions, and we all want same Answers. This exists in us all.
We may never get to the final Answer, but I believe we should be having Life (read: Time) to ask more mature Questions.
I believe in this Hope. I hope we get to the final Answer. I hope the final Answer brings more Questions.
I wish I had more Life to make more mature Questions toward the final Answer.
I wish we have Time.

I wonder why you would think that?
If we believed in God then it follows that we would need a religion to be' in' with the 'in' crowd. I wonder which one you would choose as the 'true' religion and why?
God is a myth invented by man, religion is BS invented by man to control followers.
My only 'wish' is to see all religions banned off the face of the earth. Not your belief in God that does no harm if its a comfort to you,( like a drug gives comfort) Religion is harmful to your health. I 'wish' that would be printed on the front of every 'holy' book!
Hope this helps??
