Clappers are all over the place. Some years ago I came up with a circuit as a whisper light. Basically it was a transducer feeding an op amp (with a pot for gain control) and the output fed to a triac to switch the AC. Used it to light the Christmas tree, for example. You could clap it on or talk to it. If you said "Hello Tree" it would light up. The switched AC followed the audio picked up by the mic.

Plug in whatever you want to clap on or off to a clapper unit
