The Gospels which open the New Testament, record that Jesus was dedicated in the Second Temple in accordance with the Law of Moses with accompanying sacrifice (see Luke 2:22-28). His boyhood visit to the Temple where he talked with the teachers there is also recorded, (Luke 2:41-52). He was raised a devout, religious Jew and became thoroughly versed in the Scriptures from an early age. At the beginning of his three-year ministry about the age of 30, Jesus cleansed the temple (John 2:14) at Passover, and again during the last week of his life, (Matthew 21:12, Mark 11:15-19, Luke 19:45-48). He also taught there. Jesus referred to the Temple as "his Father's house". Since Jesus is believed to be the Christian Messiah it's important to Christians.

The Temple Mount is so important for Christians because the Bible tells us that those who bless God's people (the Jewish people) will be blessed as well. Furthermore, the Bible teaches us that the land of Israel belongs to the Jewish people. This has been taken away from them over the years and as a result, we Christians believe that it belongs to the Jewish people. Furthermore, the Jewish people are a beloved people by TRUE Christians -- they are God's people and they are our people.
Another reason that the Temple Mount is important is because of its role in prophecy. The Bible tells us that the Jews will construct the temple again one day. And again, this is why we ask that the Temple Mount be returned to its rightful owners.
When looked at in this light, I hope that this will help you to understand why this is so important to us.

Where does it say that? I can't find it in my bibles !

This is why the evangelicals have made a big deal out of the temple. They think (wrongly) that if they rebuild the temple Jesus will come back.
