Ingrown toenail question?

If you leave a really nasty probably infected ingrown toenail in for a long time what could the side affects be? how do you know if it is infected?

It hurts like crazy. Extremely painful to the touch.

It will swell and get very red.

First, the corner of your toe will get really red and swollen.

Then, if you dig the toenail out of your skin, it will bleed.

Wait a day or two, then the redness will turn a little greenish.

Squeeze the area and watch what happens.
