I believe in Jesus, yet i don't think this would weaken anybodies faith. I mean, if He was married does that take anything away from what He stands for? Yes, I believe Jesus is Gods' son but He also had a mortal mother. He is half mortal. why shouldn't He marry? I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but there is a debate going on around me now (people of multiple faiths) so any imput on this would be appreciated. I was just asked to include the fact (even though it is irrelevent) that the diff. faiths are 2 Catholic, 1 Muslim, and 1 Pagan. (we are couples)

thanks for any help or advice

Jesus having a wife would not affect him in any way.
His glories would be same. He prayed to God to forgive those criminals who were torturing him on the cross.

Just by having a wife would not reduce his glory, rather it would set as an good example how a son of God and messenger of God preaching the message og God should behave, so that everycan follow his example, irrespective of catholic, muslim, pagan or whatever.

I don't believe that Jesus had a wife or it would have been detailed in the Bible. Everything Jesus did was as an example. If He had a wife, He would have been demonstrating how to be a good husband and how to be a good father. Instead He preached about it.

Why is it a problem for some people to say that Jesus had a wife? It's not the speculation, it's the motivation. The people who put forth these theories are using this as a begining point for tearing down the entire Christian religion. They want others to believe that Christianity is a myth based on some loose and mostly incorrect historical facts. They are free to have their opinions as long as they don't represent their viewpoint as anything other than an opinion.

Also, if Jesus had a wife then there could be children. This could lead to claims of being a direct descendent of Jesus and therefor claiming to be better than other people. There's enough supremecists out there already.

No. It wouldn't be so bad. In fact, if it turned out to be true, that would come as a relief for me. He died when he was 33. I've always wondered how he was able to stay "single" for so long. (even in today's world, most people get married before they are that age, so back then, that was REALLY ancient to be alive and still "unwed", "single" or a "batchelor"). I mean, all these other holy men in the bible were married and had kids and it didn't detract from their place in religion and history - so why should Jesus be excluded?

Unless.... there's something "impure and unholy" about being married that I don't know about. I mean, come on.... I went to Catholic school, and some smarty pants kid asked Sister Mary if "Jesus was a virgin" and Sister Mary said: "Well..... considering he was 33 when he died, my guess would be, no, he was not a virgin. Jesus was human, and sinned like we did."

The bible can't cover EVERY detail of Christ's life like,: "and then he woke up. He bathed, then he got dressed in a blue and white robe. He ate some bread, then put on his sandles. He then walked to the market to meet Paul and John at the spice stall. Jesus bought some paprika and salt. John bought salt too, Paul didn't have any money, so Jesus paid for his dried Thyme. Then, Jesus, Paul and John met Peter for lunch. Jesus had the fish with lemon. Jesus talked about God. After lunch, Jesus, Paul, John and Peter went to the temple to pray. After prayer, the went to dinner. Jesus had fish again, but this time with olives instead of lemon. After dinner, Jesus, Paul, John and Peter talked some more. Then Jesus went home. He said his prayers. Then he went to sleep." The bible doesn't record every day in the life of Jesus - just certain things. Would you want the bible to be hundreds of chapters longer so you could read days where nothing really happened? He lived for 33 years - not every day was worth writing about. It's only going to record just the important stuff. And a day in the life of Jesus like what I described above - would be left out of the bible, because it wasn't too interesting. It was just an ordinary day.

Also, if he got married, chances are 1.) Maybe no one but the apostles were around and didn't feel it was relevant to include that detail. or 2.) felt it might put his wife's life in danger, so they kept it low-key. -or- 3.) they just thought Jesus's private life was no body's business! Even Jesus is entitled to SOME privacy!!!

Even if the 2 reason above were not the case - the records from back them were pretty good- but not like the records they keep today - they aren't totally acurate. AND, this was before the internet - where for $50 bucks you can look up if someone was married or not. If Jesus was married in another city hundreds of miles away, it would be pretty hard to find the record. Even today - if you want to find out if someone was married, you need to know: 1.) the name of both the groom and the bride's MAIDEN name. 2.) The city or state they were married in AND 3.) the exact date they were married on - or else - it is very difficult to find that information. It was even harder to find back in his day.

it truly is only 1 thing that Catholics sell. Bunk! and not written interior the bible. I even have under no circumstances study the two way approximately Jesus having or not having a spouse and childrens. have you ever? Did you study the comprehensive e book, conceal to cover, and did you comprehend each little thing approximately it? Huh. i did not think of so. And directly to Davinci!! Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci. April 15, 1452 – might 2, 1519 Italian Renaissance polymath: an architect, anatomist, sculptor, engineer, inventor, geometer, musician, futurist and painter. fantastically clever, all around guy. The Da Vinci code has been around for 500 years, even though it took a e book author and a action picture producer to get anybody involved in his writings. each and all the crap you hear with regard to the evil and the devil, are all hype to sell the e book and the action picture. it truly is a e book and that's a action picture. persons are so elementary minded, that they're going to have faith something. till now I forget approximately, I even have a bridge in Brooklyn that i'll sell you genuine much less high priced! in case you have faith the Da Vinci Code = evil and the devil hokum, then i comprehend which you will choose my bridge.

You know, in sixth grade religion class, my teacher had us more or less systematically question the literalism of the bible, starting with Adam and Eve (who did Cain marry if Adam and Eve were the only other people around?), and on through Mary (could she still be the Blessed Virgin if she had other kids, the normal way, after Jesus? Sure, why not? She was a virgin when it mattered)
Even though I don't believe in any of that anymore, this type of skepticism quite easily follows through on your question too - you look at the heart of what the author of a biblical passage was trying to say. This, not the fine details, would be what matters. Jesus having a wife would not detract at all from his message.

If he had desired one it wouldn't have been, but Christians believe he came for a very important purpose which was to give his life for the sins of men. To suggest he was married is to suggest the writers of the new testement all conspired in a big lie. If they told one big lie like this how could you trust anything they said, especailly considering he claimed to be God's son. Getting married wold have detracted from the purpose he came for. add to that the Christian belief is that humans have a sin nature so there would be implications for God who has no sin to marry someone who did. o the answerer down below me you really need to do some research about the reliability of the new testement man manuscripts. You would be quite suprised.

It would not harm my faith, I don't see how it could change anyones mind about Jesus. However it would have been very dangerous to his wife if it came out that he was married at the time I think they would have crucified her as well so I can see a reason to keep it quiet to protect her.

Churches don't like change.
If they all of sudden recognized a wife for Jesus, then what else did they get wrong and have to address too?

And - if Jesus had a wife, then why can't priests?
If priests have wives, what happens if they want to get divorced? What happens when the priest dies - what does his wife inherit? Etc, etc, etc.

No...if you are the church, then change is not good - better keep everything the way it is.

Are you serious?
these people are saying no that it is not wrong if Jesus had a wife.
To you guys JESUS IS GOD..according to Christianity.
How the hell could God have a wife.
Would he marry another goddess or a human? If it was a Woman God then obviously Christianity would not be monotheistic (which its not in the first place)
That is absolutely sicking.
Ugh I want to throw up now.

I think its quite possible that Jesus had a wife. He came down here, not just to teach, but to be an example for all, and Families are Forever... My religion teaches you have more chance of getting to heaven if you're married. Our clergy are not paid for being clergy and they get to be married, because generally a Bishop is a Bishop for seven years or there abouts....
