You do realize that Catholics are Christians as well, right?
\There are levels of rewards in heaven according to your life. All levels in heaven are far better than eternal damnation though, by far without a doubt! God doesn't "just reward" someone for believing. Satan and the demons BELIEVE. They have to repent and follow Jesus and ask for forgiveness. THEN, as a GIFT from Jesus (and he knows the true heart of one repenting, if they mean it or not) you receive salvation and a place in heaven. It is very simple .... but not so much that you can lie your way into heaven.

chlo: As a Christian, I say that you are right. Firstly; who says that the dead "go to heaven" or "hell" upon dieing ? This could only hold validity IF people have an "immortal soul". Jesus Christ is the only one who is immortal (see: First Timothy chapter 6, verse 16) . The immortal soul doctrine is not plausible when researched against the Holy Bible, as it was first introduced by the ancient Egyptians then, adopted later, by the Greeks, for the sole ( not "soul") purpose of exercising control over the general populace. When a complete study of either, the Old or New Testaments of the Holy Bible are researched, you can not find the term "immortal soul", in either the Hebrew language of the Old testament nor the Greek language of the New Testament. You are wrong though, thinking God is not merciful. If God was not a loving God, full of mercy, we inhabitants of this earth would of been erased long ago.

It is not simply about "believing". It's about repentance before a righteous and just God; this involves agreement with God that they have done evil, and a deep heartfelt sorrow for what they have done. The intention of their heart has changed, wanting to live their life according to and in agreement to God's will and commandments. All have sinned, and all must repent and ask forgiveness. Those who do this, believing that Jesus is who He said He is, and had done what He said He has done, are the ones who can be saved. God's forgiveness, mercy and grace is ultimately up to Him.
Prisons are full of people who say that it was not their fault, taking no responsibility for their actions. The world is full of people who do not think they sin, and seeing no fault will not take responsibility for their actions either. God has made it clear what sin is by His commandments, and by it all are guilty. Not everyone will agree or want to change the way they have been living their life. All have the opportunity and free will choice to repent and believe in God's provision concerning our sin through Jesus Christ.
Jesus said the he is the way, the truth, and the life; that no one can come to God but through Him. He is the exclusive way God has provided. There is no other way. The truth of this claim is found by God's love for us. He touches the heart and life of those who believe and repent, changing the individual's will and intentions of their heart. They are "born again" and have become a new creation. The relationship they have with God is restored, and they know that He is real, a living God. They know they have been forgiven by God's presence in their life, and now live their new life according to His will.
While we still have life, we have the opportunity to accept this new covenant God has made with us concerning sin. The victims that your murderer killed had their chance to believe while they were alive, just as everyone does. If we look at God's mercy and grace as an expression of His love, and His commandments being based and summarized as our loving Him and other people, we know that the best possible life one can have now and after death, is one that is lived through Christ.

Your scenarios are over simplified to say the least. A murderer doesn't necessarily get a 'get in heaven free' card anymore than someone who didn't quite believe enough will be punished in hell. It just doesn't work that way. God is truly merciful and he no more judges a murderer than someone who believes but can't be bothered going to church on Sundays. All of us will be judged at some point. The best way I find to think about it is to think that if God is in your heart judging you, what do you want him to see? You have no control over murderes or anyone else, just yourself.

Think of a line...this line is God's will. A perfect person would never leave this line all his life. Since none of us are perfect, we all leave this line. Whether we are ten miles from the line or one-tenth of an inch from it, we are still off of it. Although we have all "fallen," God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, and if we ask for forgiveness then we are forgiven.
The retribution, as you put it, for sin is the death of Jesus.
Everyone can get a "get in heaven" card. (Although it is not free, since Jesus paid the ultimate price.)
For the second paragraph, lets imagine again. If you were God, would you want to spend eternity with people who truly love you and lived their lives for you, or people who blasphemed against you and turned the other cheek?
I hope this cleared your question up.

Well, people go to Hell because they sinned against God. That is a fact. But just believing in God does not save anyone. It is repentance and faith. No one gets into heaven for free. It did cost the life of Jesus. That's why He suffered and died on the cross. Now, just like the Bible talks about different degrees of punishment in Hell, there are different rewards (type and amount I believe) in Heaven. When we die, there are two judgments. one is where we are judged according to our sins. those who die without Christ will be found guilty at this judgment, and sent to hell. The other judgment is for Christians, those who are saved, and we will be judged according to our works. I guess you can say that's what determines our rewards in Heaven so to speak.
Fellow Christians, if I'm incorrect in my understanding here, do please correct me.

Chloe, either GOD is a forgiving GOD or HE is not. HE IS. You cannot 'grade'sin. He can but you can't. How would you have it done? Would you want the person to repent and be sent to Hell anyway? What about your sins? If you die in an unrepentant state of heart then you will go to Hell. The same goes for me. If you have ever even been angry with someone without cause then your are just as guilty of murder as someone who actually killed a person. That is what the Bible says.
It may not seem fair by man's standards but be glad that we are not judged by man's standards. GOD is much more forgiving that we are. (you have proven that by your outburst here)

Even after you're saved, and you can't loose your salvation, you can still sin. God will judge your sin and punish accordingly. I don't quite understand God's mercy to allow a murderer into Heaven after he/she has repented and accepted Jesus, but our God is a great big merciful God and we are all sinners, saved by grace. I don't know about the Catholic faith, sorry.

Boy we are talking the tip of the ice burg, opening a can of worms, unlocking Pandoras' Box, etc, yada, yada. Bottom line - I don't know, nor does anyone else who ain't lying. Thus, mankind created religion and no religion can survive if not for fear. Is this a good or bad thing? I don't think we will ever know in this lifetime. That being said I am going to post another question that I hope is food for thought and maybe better explored in a blog, but look for it anyway. In the meantime if you feel like discussing your question further please email me or catch me on Messenger. Either one is thomasmagic002@yahoo.com. Be well and "Carry it Forward"

first off you make the same accusation that many athiest/nonbelivers make. a person does not go to hell because they have failed to "belive" suffeciently. this is the most fallacious and unbibilical asserion and proves to me yet again, that people like you should try actually reading the Bible before you come on here making stupid statements like this. Why do people go to Hell? people go to hell because of sin, sin is transgression of the Law (ten Commandments) just as an example you used murder as an example of Gods unfairness, The Bible says you have heard it said of old you shall not murder, but whoever hates his brother or is angry unjustly is a murderer at heart. so have you ever been angry unjustly or hated someone? then by definition, your a murderer at heart. so why should God let murderers into heaven? should God only punish murderers? of course not, he will also give equall punishment to those who have lied, stolen, looked with lust, used Gods name in vain or coveted. so please dont fall into the fallacious thinking that this is simply a victim and victimizer situation. None are innocent in gods eyes and if nay of us have broken that law, we are all equally deserving of eternal hell. so, why should you get into heaven? have you evr broken the above laws? if you have said yes, then by your own admission, your a lying theiving blasphenmous adukterer and murderer at heart. so, given that your Just as guilty as the next guy, why should you be deserving of anything other than Gods wrath? The answer is that we shouldn't, infact the BIble says the penalty for sin is hell. The good news is that Christ died for us, when Christ died he took the punishment we deserve, Gods mercy is not free, Christ suffered damnation and seperation from God on your behalf, so that you and I could even have one iota of an opportunity to get right with God. when Christ died God poured out his wrath and chastisement upon jesus Now, if you or anyone wants to be saved, you must realize #1 your not any more innocent than the next guy. #2 were all under the penalty of death for our transgression of the Law not unbelife. # 3, most importanlty, we can recieve this salvation that is so graciously offered to us by repenting (turning from sin) and trusting in Christ and his sacrifice upon the cross. I have seen you come on her and make baseless assertion upon baseless assertion, excuse afte excuse after excuse. what excuse will you use whne you stand before God and your sin comes out as evidence of your guilt before a Holy God? there will be none, the Bible says every mouth will be stopped, and nothing of life will be remebered except those times you had chance after chance to get right with God, but spurned the opportunity. Please, examine my motives for speaking to you like this,#1 I dont want you to Join my Church. #2 I dont want your money. what I do want, is for you to think about your eternal salvation, life is to short to make these silly excuses and find yourself in a horrifying Judgement, by making excuses, we do not make the truth go away, we simply fight a battle that will never be one, because judgement day draws every day nearer, every heart beat you have and every breath you take is God given, and one day he wil cause it to cease.
God Bless
