I would sit your parents down and have a chat with them. Tell them that all your friends work and have their own money and it makes them feel independent. Tell your parents that you need to feel independent and would feel better if you earned your own money. Its all part of growing up and your parents can no longer tell you what to do here. If you are 19 there is no reason for you not to work. I think that your parents are just having trouble letting go. Parents don't mean it that way but you have to learn to do these things and have experiences in life so you will learn from those experiences. I would just go out and get a job without them knowing. They will be annoyed with you but do they want you to be a bad empolyee and not show up for work? No, make it part time at first to get them used to it and then increase your hours slowly. Good luck with your decision, take care Heather

Tell them you are getting a job, you are a legal adult. Get in your car (or on your bike... or walk...) and just go do it. Tell them that you're old enough to start making decisions for yourself. And that having no work experience is going to hurt you later in life.
If you're in college, I can understand that they would want you to use your free time to study rather than work... but I'm sure you can handle a few hours a week... like less than 10 even if you're a full time student.
Tell them a job builds character, will help your social skills, teaches you responsibility, and teaches you skills that are important for life.
AND DON'T TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER

Explain to them that you need to work now, because the older you get the harder it is to get a first job. One of my brothers waited until he was 21 (for various reasons) to try and get his first job, it was horrible he had a really hard time because most companies arent willing to take on a 21 yr old with no work experience, its not like your 16 anymore who has a reason for no work experience.
Have you asked why they wont let you work and are on lock down, maybe take a look at your behavior and see if it warrants it.

The question here is, why are you still at home at 19?
Heck if your parents want to take care of you while you finish school or whatever it is easier then going out and doing it yourself.
If you want a job move out of there house. Then you will have no choice but to get a job.

You need to be a man about it and tell them that you're going to get a job, and just go do it. You're too old to not be working. What are they going to do, kick you out?
Lets say they do kick out--you can stay with a friend for a couple of months while you work and save up money for an apartment.

Whatever happend to the good ol' days....where you got a job @ 15 ...working your butt off, to get money for the things you wanted...like a car...or eventually your own place. By the time I was 16, i was paying 50 bucks every two weeks on rent...and I had purchased my own car..and blah blah blah...i'm definatly not bragging here..but ya know my grandparents used to say if you want something..get your butt to work ..and earn it....for you situtation....i agree with everyone on here.....you are a legal adult...they cannot make you not have a job....or even live with them.....

Find another family member or family friend and ask for their help. You may need to live with other family members or family friends until you can get established in a job.

Try to find a 'safe' job (like an office) or one similar to your folks' occupations. Or just take whichever job you like.
Not sure what your folks are thinking; I had to get a job within a month of turning 16.

ideas.
1. you could keep asking them for money all the time and if they get really frausterated tell them well if they allowed you to work you would not have to ask for money.
2. you could write a cv and put in the experience column--"parents did not allow me to work"
3. You could talk to one of ther friends they really like and respect to help you convince them
4. talk to them and give them all the reasons why you would like to work.
if none of the above works let me know.keep us posted yeah?
