this past school year i haven't been getting a lot of sleep. Probably an average of 6 or 7 hours a night. I feel very weird like whenever someone says something to me i don't process it and i ask "what?". Also it feels like im a walking zombie and like part of my brain is turned off, i can't function like i used to. I'm ALWAYS tired, and even when i had a week off of school and got like average of 9 to 10 hours a night for like 7 consistent days i didn't feel normal, just the same symptoms and very tired. How can i cure this and how long will it take?

OK it sound like you are depressed....I am not sure why this is under hair...but I have been there please get someone to talk to...I went through a hugh bit of depression and slept for an entire 3 days. You do not function right...you feel like you don't fit, and even when you are functioning you feel like it is an effort...that is a form of depression. Please talk to someone, you may be under too much stress for the body and brain to handle...you take care, Alda
For the record 6-7 hours sleep a night is not that little. It should be enough unless you are not sleeping right. I agree with answerer below. I also take Melatonin, a totally natural and non drug way to get to sleep.....be careful though, gives you humongus dreams. I stick with my answer, please get someone to talk to, you are getting plenty of sleep, if you need more you are probably trying to "escape" from something. Please take care and my e-mail is available, please let me know you are ok...thanks, Alda

How old are you? If you're adolescent, you may know that a series of studies have been produced citing the adolescent's need for more sleep that 8 hours a night, sometimes as much as 10-12. The high school schedule is directly inconflict with the natural rhythm here as the sleep hours the adolescent craves last into mid morning or early afternoon. all of the rewiring the human body goes through, the creation of new cells, and the physical expansion of the body mass are exhausting. Extra sleep is much better for the developing brain and body than running on the antiquated school schedule. Unfortunately there's not much you can do about the morning, but ditching an extra-curricular activity for a daily scheduled nap is a great idea. Look at Spain. Everyone takes a nap every day, and they all look amazing.

Diet may have something to do with it too. If you eat a lot of fatty foods or junk, you're basically running on empty in terms of nutrients. Eat better. More fruits and veggies, grains. Less meat, little fat.

There's an article in Newsweek about the connection between exercise and the brain. If you're brain is feeling slow and unresponsive, you might want to take a jog or get into a gym. You'll feel, think, function, and look better.

If you change these habits, stick to a healthier routine for a few months, and the symptoms persist, then seek medical help. There might be a disorder of some type.

Steer clear of pills. They do more harm than good.

I had the same problem. You can try to regulate your sleeping cycle.I can't even express how much this has helped me.I started taking a natural sleep aid called Melatonin just to start the regulation process.Try to go to sleep at the same time every night and get up at the same time every morning.Within a week you should start feeling loads better. If this still isn't working for you, then you should see a professional..it could be something more serious.

Have you been to the Doctor? There are different viruses and illness that can make you feel tired and lethargic. Also a lack of certain vitamins in your diet can also effect how you feel ie: iron.

Stress and anxiety can also effect the way you sleep and process information.

If you haven't you might need to see your doctor and see if they can find a physical/emotional explaination for the way you have been feeling.

Depression is not the automatic answer! You could just need a multivitamin. Have you had any blood-work done? You could be anemic, and need an iron supplement. Go get yourself checked out dude. Best of luck.

i think you should go get checked out by your doctor. it does sound a bit like anaemia though. thats were you have a defencing in iron. i get it sometimes and its usually from not eating enough red meat and green leafy veggies, which are full of iron. you can get a diet supplement, but id suggest going to your doc first. just in case. good luck.
