It would depend on what kind of project you were working on. Check with fabric stores in your area, like JOann's, for flexible foam. Also places that do upholstery may be a good source. If you want the more rigid kind, go to a hardware store: Lowe's, Menard's, Home Depot, etc. Craft stores also may have what you need but can be higher in price.

Several years ago when I had an upholstery shop i found the best foam from a foam manufacter, they get foam in big loaves and cut to your specs.
I would search the yellow pages for such a company.
I used their most dense foam and never had any dissatisfied comsumers.

you can buy foam by the yard at jo-ann's fabric and crafts up to 4" thick
