Hi,
I think it's because sometimes people can mention symptoms and hope that other people on here have had something similar and could offer advise. I agree that most people with medical problems should go and see their doctor but some medical problems are urgent and people just need a bit of reasurance. Perhaps you have a doctor who is caring and helpful, but many people don't. I have very bad doctors experiences and so hate going to them and when I do they make it out like I shouldn't have bothered...and I may only have been in once every few years....so sometimes I find I would get more comfort or reassurance from people on here who have had the same thing. I also think so many people fear the doctors that it can take extra persuasion to get them to go so, they ask a question here, tell people their problem just to see if others will recommend and reaffirm their own thoughts that they need to see someone.

I think most people know though that they can't fully rely on 'answers' to diagnose illness or give medication but it's more a place to release anxiety and possibly gain some comfort!

x

Oh dear, now you have gone and up-set poor old Bungle! No matter, I think that some people will ask a health question on site because, in reality they hope that their ailment may "go away " if they do. Some people do not like going to a doctor, yet still worry if they are unwell. By asking on here they may feel better for sharing their problem. I know this does not make much sense generally, but sometimes people just want to be told that there is nothing wrong with them. Of course, you must always go to the doctor and get professional help when you are ill.

You must tell Bungle that I think he is exaggerating his ailments, so that he can get some attention, but just in case he isn`t I shall ask the vet to make a house call on him to check him over !

Its for the same reason people might consult their family or friends, its not for medical help but for suggestions of what could be done. Remember that a lot of people can find it difficult seeing their doctor either due to lack of time or the feeling their condition is not serious. Asking questions here about medical conditions can be useful because someone would have first hand experience of it and be able to offer good advice.

Anne. I do not agree with you at all. I think that Yahoo answers is an excellent way to meet people that are going through similar situations/problems. I have learned so much by asking, reading and answering on Yahoo. I agree on the part that you say people should go to Doctor, but I think yahoo is also necesary. I see that some of the things may scare you to death but they are real things that happen to real people. By the way....how old are you?

Well, think about it: Doctors cost money. Plus, it takes time and transportation to get to a doctor.

But aside from that, there's some issues that people don't want to or simply CAN'T actually come out and ask. Some communities are so rigid that questions about things like drugs, abuse, and sexuality can't be asked without very deep consequences. Here you have the anonymity to ask things without fear of judgment.

Who do you think counsellors are? Just ex drug addicts and divorced abused woman. Hardly experts in drug counselling or relationships. And doctors do not keep up on the latest medicine and their side effects. At least you know the people here are insane.

Because they want to know what other people have experienced. Too many doctors get kickbacks from pharmaceutical companies to prescribe certain meds.
